Will I be able to access Facebook, Youtube, etc in Hong Kong (without using a VPN)?
Hong Kong is outside GFW, you can use whatever web sites you like from there
No firewall, and according to South China Morning Post today, HK has the fastest peak internet speed in the world. You can download a complete movie in 4 minutes.
They would riot in the streets if they tried that crap in HK.
In many ways HK is even freer than the west...like prostitution and being able to drink on the street corner (poor man's night on the town drinking beer outside 7-11).
hippy:
Guess what? They rioted anyway. And many in the intelijence comunity would say they rioted because of the presence of western websites, and cell phone programs. One can easily argue that if HK didn't have google, facebook, whatsap, and instagram, that the riots would have never taken off in the first place, and their gwailo masters would have had difficulty orchestrating and conducting the riots. And thedude's definition of "freedom" is exactly why western inperialists can't be taken seriously. They equate prostitution, and drinking to freedom. Meanwhile, you can't even eat a bloody banana on the subway.
Well, everyone seems to be in agreement. That's a first. LOL.
Thanks guys! I'll be sure to live it up during my hours long layovers in the next couple weeks
Scandinavian:
as an added bonus. HKIA has decent free wifi and power outlets if you are in the airport for longer durations. coverage is good, but sometimes it is worth waiting at the wrong gate
cooter:
Awesome. Luckily for me, it's also Cathay Pacific's home/hub airport, and they're partnered up with American Airlines with whom I have FF status (easily obtained flying back and forth to China). So I'll be lounging in the first class lounge, where great WIFI is expected, amongst other things
I feel HK is more opened to the world than any other place in the world.
if it applies.. why is google .cn being auto forwarded to googke hk ?... hk is not censored
good bye hong kong, great run, great city, but the mainland destroyed you to make shenzhen better and say, see we can make something better than the british, sorry hong kong was the best city in the world and used to be the best passport to have in the world.
thanks for destroying the greatest city in the world china.

ambivalentmace:
your not old enough to know better, but at one time a Hong Kong passport would get you into 182 countries visa free and they still have the best airport in Asia, New york, Paris, London, even Vienna, my 2nd choice could not hold a candle to Hong kong in the 80's.
ambivalentmace:
Now it's still got the best airport in the world, food is now second to Tokyo, and everything else will just be shit after China screws it up, but it was a great place, rest in peace. It is going to be interesting watching them tear down a system that protects all the corrupt leaders money they hide in trust accounts and foreign bank accounts in Hong Kong, after the tear the place up they will need a new illegal banker.
The firewall isn't active in HK, eventhough it should. The reason why Hongers are so brain washed (to be pro western) is mostly due to western websites. I guarantee half of the problems in HK would be solved with the absence of western prapaganda.
Hotwater:
You mean they’d automatically kowtow to their great masters in Beijing? Pillock
hippy:
like they currently kowtow to their gwailo masters in langley?
ambivalentmace:
you mean Chinese propaganda is superior to western propoganda, how so, care to elaborate
