Q: Does XXX mean the same thing in every country?

No, this is actually about clothes, specifically underpants. My wife asked me to check the size of my briefs (which I guessed at being a 'Large') so she can pick me up a few pairs and to my amazement they were XXXXL. Now I may have joked on here that I had moobs and a beer belly, but that was more for comic effect, the truth is i'm pretty damn slim. And certainly not XXXXL. I didn't even imagine such a size existed, at least not outside the United States or the mother-in-law's closet (you could hold a scout meeting in her drawers, they're massive). So.......is S / M / L / XL / XXL / XXXL and so on, any kind of recognised size reference that actually means something in the clothing industry or is it nothing but a meaningless term meant to confuse and befuddle unwitting customers like myself?

Looking on the bright side however, at least the next time the 'How big is your unit?" question gets raised on here again I can say it is XXXXXL.

yea, back in the states i wore a large for shirts, sweaters, etc.  here i wear an XXL.  pants are a whole other story.  i can't begin to comprehend "their" method of measuring pant sizes.  i have bought plenty of pants here, maybe i am just too accustomed to the way we have pant sizes in the states, but it is just to weird....

as for the title of this post and what you lead us to believe this was about.... pornography.  i was at a book store a few weeks ago looking for another book to teach a kid English, and i found "XXX English."  i won't lie, i was intrigued and tore the plastic off the book and see what was inside... one, i was disappointed.  two, i was forced to buy the book because i opened it...

I really surprised you guys can't figure this simple thing out. Sizes start from medium which is the average. In China (Asia), people are smaller so the sizes are going to be smaller. Clothing size is not a set standard, it is based on the people in the country or an area. Do  you really expect a slightly larger guy to be walking around in a size small?

Vyborg:

Thumbs down? Why? This answer makes a lot of sense. The average guy here wears an M but he's smaller than the average guy elsewhere who also wears an M. Hence, M here is smaller than there. I'd never thought of this before. Wearing a '7XL' sweater though.

i found out the only thing that is the same is the shoe size

but for clothes.... in germany its M and here its XXL

Vyborg:

The shoes that I buy here are called three sizes bigger than the ones I'd buy in Europe, talking scales from 39 to 42, and hard to find too.
