Q: Does your Chinese GF always go with the nuclear option too?

Anyone have GF that when there is a disagreement seems to go nuclear instead of having an conversation like an adult. Pouting, screaming, silent treatment.

Welcome to the world of Chinese women's romance 101. Bet she's from Hubei or Hunan. They shout at each other even when they have a normal conversation. I don't know why but it must be the chilli stuff they have for meals. Who knows? Depending on how you want to end up:

1. Ignore them and get more nuclear blasts

2. Apologize and say that she is right and you lose all future rights to say no

have fun!

3. Tell them to F-off out of your life. :)

Oh my goody two shoes... that is how my wife and her mother talk; they shout at each other, and I often think they're fighting, but they aren't.

And they're both Hunanites!

Hasn't happened too often. But when she talks to her mother, it is difficult to figure out if they are about to turn to throat-cutting or they are just having a friendly talk about where to go for dinner. So much drama and screaming.... I think it is wearing out the dog.

Its a cultural thing.  This is how many Chinese partners behave and its completely acceptable.

You have a very large advantage that can help you to make this situation more bearable.

You have destroyed her.

The vast majority of girls, once demolished by foreigners, ( meeting the family solidifies this )  will do absolutely anything to not have to walk through life alone hearing nothing but hot dog through hallway jokes on repeat.

Tell her that you are not happy. You are not a pedophile and had no idea you were nailing a child. This was your mistake but now its time to correct it. Make it clear that there is zero chance for a future unless she will grow up.  Expect changes soon!

Also@ Louis was right about the Hunan Sichuan Hubei thing.  Location does seem to fit those stereotypes.  Last resort. find a Cantonese girl, hard to find one you want to look at but when you do, expect a much more docile house life. With the added bonus of no gold digging.

The ex-gf went nuclear exactly one time too many: "bala bala bala we should just break up!".  Done!  Contact finally ceased 6 months later after she gave up stalking me.  The current gf so far has been relatively sane (knock on wood).

Crazy J definately earned her title.
We would have a disagreement at dinner and she would be silent... and eat... and eat... and eat... until she would throw up. Until then, I been convinced that the phrase "eat until you puke," was exactly that: a phrase!

Another time she flipped out, screamed at me and stormed out of a restaurant, because I did a terrible tbing. …I stacked my empty plate UNDER ANOTHER PLATE so that the waiter wouldnt have to do it (i worked in the service industry when I was younger. It sucks.)

She finally went fully thermonuclear, climbed into my window to jump (i live on the 7th floor) when I had the audacity to tell her that, NO, I did not think that my roommate was a freak for eatibg cereal in his pajamas at 3p.m. in our kitchen on his day off. I called her bluff, and she didnt jump.

Had a (very short) relationship with a girl like that : thermonuclear every time things didn't go her way, no discussion possible in any ways. I called it quit, it just makes life hell. Then, I met my wife, who's much more sane. Never ever accept this bullshit, there are sane women around here.

Luckily my girl is overall quite reasonable. Yeah, I sometimes had some silent treatment and some pouting. I think one advantage I had was growing up in a family with a lot of very proud and stubborn people (I'm neither) so compared to some of my family members it's actually quite chill with her.

She's never screamed at me though

I get a Sao Jiao about once a year. But the girlfriend also hates that when she see other girls doing it, so she stops when she realizes she is doing it herself.  She even laughs about it later.  I give my girl credit, she is well read and does try to improve herself.

My wife used to behave like that, but after 8 years living in the UK she is about as normal as it gets now.  She has even stopped doing what her parents tell her which is apparently unheard of in Shanghai and causes her mum in particular great shame! haha

We have been living back in Shanghai for almost 2 years now and she hasn't changed back either, which is a bonus

Nope, I make it clear from the start. I will not shout at her, I will treat her with respect, I won't be shout at or disrespected. If at any time she feels she would be happier elsewhere she is free to go. She can easily find another and so can I. The fact we both realize this and choose to stay together allows us to live in harmony. We have lived together for 4.5 years and get along great.

It happens on occasion. Less frequently than before, but the adaptation curve is *very* slow. Freaking prideful Sichuanese take nationalistic offense at every little step of progress made towards rationality. The last time we had a serious argument *over something silly* was months ago:
"Just because I listen to George Michael doesn't mean I'm gay, and you should be more tolerant anyway" yeah I was asking for it.

"You talk about the redistricting of the local municipality often. Why?...
No, I didn't mean to start a fight."

"Yes, it's basically flavoured sugar water, but giving ous son a tiny sip of it isn't going to make him inflate like a dinghy."

I understand how you guys feel. With me personally. I  would avoid a discussion about the Chinese government with my Chinese GF. Any slight criticism about it, would led to an all out war. Me as a Non-Chinese aren't allowed to say bad things about it but other Chinese are allowed to do it so. A while ago  I tried to show her a youtube vid on Tianamen, and she called the tank-man a faggot, and threw her I-phone over my head.

She might be trying to protect herself. After-all, she is a Chinese citizen.

Fujian girl: thermonuclear nutbag. Flipped out and said she didn't want to be with me anymore, and said a bunch of crazy stuff to me. I said "Okay." She came back a week later, and I told her I found someone else. "I am very disappointed," she stated. Then she disappeared for weeks, so I played a bunch of head games with her to see how she'd like it.

She acted like a nut every time we disagreed, and I couldn't stand her.

Hubei girl: a toned-down version of the Fujian nutbag. Didn't really care for her.

Nah, mine's pretty chill most of the time. Funnily enough I can criticize the government/CCP, hell even parts of the culture and history, but she doesn't like when I talk about Chinese medicine.
