Last year, express service was '24h'. Look for updated info on Chinese Embassy website:

http://www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/zgqz/syjy/

Processing time of application

1. Regular service: 4 working days including submission day (e.g. Submission on Monday and collection on Thursday)

2. Express service: 3working days including submission day (e.g. Submission on Monday and collection on Wednesday

3. Rush service: 2 working day (including the submission day. e.g. If visa application is submitted on the morning of Monday, collection time is on the morning of Tuesday; If visa application is submitted on the afternoon of Monday, collection time is on the afternoon of Tuesday)

Also note that express and rush services are not available to all nationalities, and sometimes (most of the time now) are not available at all.

I strongly suggest that your friend gets ready to spend 4 days no matter what and hope he or she does not need to.

Iron_Monkey:

Yup some nationalities have no express service option.

A French colleague had to go to HK to do a Z-Visa and it was a 4-day service timeframe with no express service available.

500 HKD and less than 24 hours. They will give you a time to pick up next day. Did it the start of September.

Also, if he/she is getting RP and FEC after that (has to be done 30 days later), enquire if you can get the Z visa for 1 month by ticking the 'Other' box and saying 1 month. The other options are 3, 6 and 12 months. Maybe it will work out less expensive for that 1 month instead of say 3.

Rush service is not express service meaning next day service.  Like dom87 wrote, that kind of service is gone with the wind.
