Q: Funniest sounding/favorite Chinese accent/dialect - go!

For me hands down it's the Beijing accent. During my trip there recently I did have a real hard time understanding their more, flowing manner of speech shall we say, but I thought it sounded great. All the "er" sounds make them sound like pirates. The general tone and pitch of they speak also reminded me of Bane from Dark Knight Rises. Anyone else had that thought?

On another note - I also love the flat, soft sounding Cantonese - Mandarin accents.

What a strange way to write a question. Is the "-go!" coda something like the "ma" used to depict questions in Chinese, or something?

I suppose only a Chinese person could really comment on the different accents in the Chinese language, and Chinese seem to be racist against Chinese of different ethnicities than themselves. Therefore, this "question" will probably attract the most interesting responses from the Chinese on this forum.

But all Chinese girls sound funny when they throw a tantrum

Don't really know about funny accents, though I must admit the first time I heard the wife's mother chatting with her friends I thought it sounded like turkeys. Years back when I first got here the general chatter used to get on my nerves some, especially on a hangover. I'd be sitting in an internet bar and it felt like everyone was standing behind me shouting "CHANG CHANG CHANG CHANG CHANG!" till I was ready to scream. Now my ear has acclimatized pretty well and i'm able to follow a good deal of the conversations around me. I'm glad to say that, though the conversation within ear-shot mysteriously turns to the subject of foreigners a great deal of the time, I never hear people saying anything I consider rude. Beyond the whole thing of clearly talking about someone in the third person when they're beside you that is, but nothing to get in a twist about. I guess my favourite sounding dialect would be that used in Hong Kong. Seperate language really, but anyway I like the sound of it. I can do a pretty mean impersonation of Bruce Lee when he's drunk actually. Has 'em rolling in the aisles.

Cantonese? Definiftely agree with you there bud. It has a much more bouncy/musical ring to it that Mandarin in my opinion and strange to think it almost became the national language under Sun-Yat Sen! Imagine all the northerners trying to speak it haha

Zhangjiajie dialect? The mother in law sounds exactly like this: ARRROOOO, AARAAAH, AAAARAAAHHH,AROOOOOO. Like, perhaps, a monkey.

Scandinavian:

how can you say that about your mother in law, what has she ever done to you.... oh wait... are you sure you don't mean "donkey" ?

Someone once told me that the Tianjin accent is the butt of a lot of jokes on tv shows. I haven't been there yet, so I couldn't say one way or another.
