Q: Got De-frauded: Luckily only 150 RMB in the account

So my bank account was drained today- fortunately it only had a 156.2 RMB in it as it was an old account that I never use. But I went to the bank anyway and they said they'd try to track it etc, but it's really worrying that that could happen, in an instant...

How did they get your password? Who do you think withdraw money? Which Chinese bank?

how was it drained, did someone gain access to your account through shopping online? a cloned card?

Yes, please give some details, this type of thing worries me. Based on what I've seen I can't see the banks or police being very helpful in these situations.

So, I talked to the bank and they said it was a cloned card- I canceled it and am waiting for a new one. Currently trying to work out a procedure to get the money back, just for the principle more than anything, sounds like it's going to be an extremely long and complicated process...

Yeah that seems to be the case here- although I don't think there is too much resistance as it's so little money. I just want to be familiar with the process in case it ever happens again.

The best advice I can give is many different bank accounts and send your savings to your home country if you're only here temporarily and Hong Kong if you're here for the long haul

Thanks for the update, luckily it wasn't a big amount.

What worries me though is it could have been a lot more, and if the bank would rather just make it hard for you than help, then I'm starting to have doubts about using Chinese banks.
