Q: Has anyone ever taught in Hebei University of Science and Technology

I have just received an offer to start in February. I would like some information on the teachers apartments etc before I except the offer.  I have been online and its looks really good in the photos, but I really would love to hear from anyone that has been there.

Thanks

This is a huge university spread out over four different campuses in the capital city of the province.  Sometimes in the past foreign teachers have had to travel between all four of the campuses to deliver their lectures.  Additionally, you very, very, very specifically need to ask the school on which campus you will be living.  In the past, the teachers were scattered all over the place -- and some of the apartments were great, perhaps the ones in the pictures that you have been shown, and the other older apartments were dreadful.  This is one question that really begs answer.

Next, it's a very solid university that is for sure.  You will not be teaching the dumb-dumbs.  They are nearly all science and engineering majors and good ones at that with ONE exception :  if you are assigned to what used to be the Hebei Textile College, which is now part of the Uni, well, those students there are not the brightest bulbs in the universe by any means and you will need all of your resources at hand.  The other students are just great.

As for the capital city of the province, you will have a good time.  It's got everything that you need and more.  The rest of the province borders on the poorer side of life in China but the capital city is just great.  You can live as Western a lifestyle there as you wish or as Chinese a lifestyle there because all of the amenities are in place.

Additionally, it is a major, major railway hub and you can have easy access to the rest of the country.  There is an airport but it is of medium-size rank.

All the best to you!

A:Your potential employer is right! Purpose of the Medical exam before granting Z visa is to make sure, you won't be entering China in any abnormal and harmful to others condition.Few days after your arrival to China, you'll be required to complete another ME ... If ME in China will be OK, you'll get a Residence permit stamp into your book some 10-days afterwards. Imagine, you're an employer, who can sponsor my entry and work in China, but after my arrival to China would be found I carry some sickness, which would prevent Chinese .gov to issue a Residence permit. Rule is: Z visa should be converted into Residence permit in 30-days after entry to China.    So, my advice is:"Complete ME in your home country and forward medical results to your employer".Z visa grant will follow shortly afterwards. Employer is not wrong at their demand for the pre-arrival ME from your home country hospital.   -- icnif77
