Chinese employers never reply to individual CVs with 'We received your CV ... Thank you!'.

If for some reason don't like your CV, they move onto the next one.

1. Send CV to every offer posted!

2. Never stop sending CVs until you get an invitation for an interview. Never stop ...!

3. Don't count the CVs sent already, but just keep sending ...

No one here has a job. We all live off government handout, pull down random statues and yell at the people who pay for all the stuff we destroy.

Sorry Maru, if you're outside of China and trying to get a job in the country it's not going to happen anytime soon, the borders are closed to pretty much everyone.

I'm starting to really wonder if there will even be much of an ESL industry left soon, anywhere. I read a comment somewhere which was food for thought, not sure if I agree or not yet but the gist of it was that...

- International travel is effectively finished for who knows how long so forget about either recruiting teachers or accepting a job somewhere.

- A lot of the kids studying English are intending going to university in either the US or UK (other places too but not in the same numbers). If those places aren't seen as being safe destinations anymore - unless a vaccine becomes available I can't see Covid going away anytime soon -would that affect the ESL industry?

- Possible / probable financial tsunami coming.. there could be a lot less disposable income out there so there go the kid's English classes, schools close as a result.

- Not sure I agree with this point but ... if western (English speaking) economies take a big hit and lose global influence would the perception of English being as necessary a part of kid's education still be true?

At this point, and for probably at least another year travel bubbles opening up as different areas get on top of the virus are probably the only real hope for the ESL and tourism industries and that's assuming things don't go even more pear shaped than they are now.

I agree with Stiggs. Unless you are already in China, you will find it very difficult to get in. The economy has influenced some of middle class here, preventing some from continuing their English education plans. Our high school seniors will conduct classes here in China via Google classroom, where they would normally have been in the USA. Our university students are having to conduct classes, primarily through internet classes. I think most countries are waiting until after the USA elections and for the winter terms. We have a teacher that has been trapped in another country since this thing occurred. He is fortunate that our school is working with him and allowing him to teach from outside the country. Our school has been very supportive of the foreign teachers throughout this process.
