Now I am from the United States of America. And I know that for many years people have been looking up to the states as the world leader in economy, military and so forth. When I took a class on Western Civilization I learned that power hardly ever stays with one nation forever. The nation that had the greatest power before was Rome, and then the power switched over eventually to the United States of America leading the world in technology and inventions and so forth. Has that time to pass the torch to China finally arrive? The power never stays with one nation and I was wondering if the time to pass the torch to China finally arrive. China is leading in the economy and so far many nations are looking at China for help with their crisis while China's economy is strong. The military is growing and it has been proven that they are now a world leader. I think it is time to pass the torch!
First China doesn't want it yet. Why take all the responsability of being the world leader when it's easier to busy out and US debt and sit behind them ranking in profit. Plus it's too busy ironing out some internal problems first.
As far as the economy... China's an export economy specializing in cheap exports. As China grows the cost of living and wages go up, losing that cheap export business to other countries. China has to develop a new economical nitch before world leadership.
But don't get your hopes up... there's still a chance it could happen in your lifetime.
America's current decline will not do anything to help China.
And why would you want to pass the torch to China? You claim to be American and are rooting for their decline and China's rise? I find this difficult to believe, sorry.
China will never be a global leader with its current form of government and the horrible regimes around the globe they prop up and protect.
Firstly, I'm unsure if the torch will ever be passed to China. If the torch was passed, and it was made in the United States, it would last a long time. If China used one of its own torches, it would last approximately two months and then break, needing to be replaced. Made in China.
no one will pass the torch to China. China will copy it and then claim they invented torches, and that the torch in fact has always been part of China.
For a nation to be a world leader you have to look at its overall qualities and China doesnt match up yet maybe in 20 years
this dude smells liketonguekissalion, he made all the same mistakes. no one from america speaks like that.
talk to me in 10 years.
This guy serious? He talks like a robot butler.
To answer the question, no. There will be no torch passing. The centers of power in the world will be North America, Europe, and East Asia. Russia dreams of being a 4th pillar but that's a laugh. We're heading towards a multi-polar world.
Jnusb416:
Robot butler, lmao! For real though, did he say "pass the torch" enough? I think he needs to say it a few more times, just for effect.
No, there will be no torch-passing for a long time. At this rate, China would not be the best candidate anyway. Whatever country it will be will have to surpass the US, not only in innovation and technology, but economy, pop culture, you name it. I have seen no signs of this so far, and until I do, the torch has no chance of changing hands, sorry.
Until China beefs up its military, it will be unable to hold the torch for long even if passed.I am talking about aircraft carriers (many instead of 1 built on a borrowed Russian hulk), tanks that are using technology from the 70's etc.
I will give you an example. Remember when that Chinese pilot that hit that US spy plane and the pilot (Wang Wei) died? In China they say he was a hero. He was a bad pilot who couldn't fly. He tried to fly close (on orders from command), to imtimidate them, take out an engine and miscalculated because he was an inexperienced pilot with no combat experience. He followed orders and I commend him for that. But an American pilot could have taken a Chinese spy plane down with a crash and lived to tell the tale. I guess life is cheap in China.
The entire Chinese army has no relevant combat experience since WWII. They had an incursion into India in 62, that did not turn out well for either side.China grabbed some Indian land they do not want to give back. India grabbed some Chinese land that the Chinese are crying to get back like little spoiled babies!
The Chinese Army danced into Nam back in 79 if memory serves correctly, and were unable to take the country (a litttle one, with only 80 million people). They tore some crap up in the North and were repelled (or withdrew as China puts it). Before you say the US is the same, China could frickin walk there and couldn't pull it off. Geez! Pass the torch? Please give me whatever drugs you are smoking because they must be excellent!
Then there is the economy. The US with all its problems is still the leading economy in the world. China has a fairly low per capita income. The money and economic power quoted for China is for trillions. Problem is that not alot of people in China have a pot to piss in (you need to divide those GDP trillions by billions of people!)! Its in the hands of a few (mostly party members and people who have slipped red bags under the table to party members) and concentrated on the East Coast.
Its something thats always addressed in the 5 year plan. Even the Chinese leadership realizes this, 50 cent brigade boy!
The US is corrupt too, but it doesnt hold a candle to corruption in China, which is why the torch will never be passed. Dream on!
You're not American, it's obvious, Western Civilization class? You mean history?
China can have the torch. I'm an American who believes America needs to worry about itself more and not focus so much on global politics. Careful, don't burn yourself.
Oh, go away, Wu Mao. China will never be what the US is because people don't respect dictators who make crappy merchandise. As well, the Chinese economy is about to collapse. You have a nation where 85 per cent of you live in Poverty, FFS. You think that's a world leader?
Did you also know that the city of Shanghai has the same GDP as phonenix, 1/5 its size? THAT'S HOW WEAK YOU ARE IN REALITY. You idiots need to get over yourselves.
Also, when the hell was it proven that China's military is a world leader?
Well actually Western Civilization I and Western Civilization II are college courses. I'm just correcting you nothing against your judgement and all but it is obvious your just not accustomed with taking up those classes. But yes I am an American. Yeah, I took American History in highschool and it was not a pleasant class.
I agree with you that America does need to worry about itself. Everytime when I went to a supermarket or the spa I heard a lady saying this is from china and she left. Another guy was talking about all the jobs are getting sent to china and was bickering about it to the other spa members. I wasn't involved in the conversation I just overheard it and it was just annoying I just wanted to relax.
The funny part was people worry about other things and not what they need to worry about. For example the guy was talking about people who had college degrees and obviously he didn't.
I think from what I've seen so far in the states I believe we still have a superior military and we definitely have superior educational systems. We have clean environment and we have had many late inventors that have help bring the world to what it is today. Without American inventors there would probably be no phone, airplane etc. We would still need to run like messengers to get the message across and as far as flying we would probably be walking riding a car or on a boat to travel around the world. I just think some people diss other nations and some of them never truely thank them for what they have given them. I'm thankful that I can fly around the world and I don't have to run around to give someone a message.
I'm not sure if we are ready to give up the torch. As America I believe still has the torch. A lot of attention has been drawn to things that are not important. That's where the failure will set in! In every story there is a downfall and hopefully that is not ours.
When Rome was the greatest nation on the planet it had a downfall. Greed and power and eventually they lost both. Now America has the torch and hopefully there will be no downfall! Corruption is the worst!
thedude:
Yes Western Civ I & II are American college classes....I have taken them. My issue was not with this, but your tone, wording and references. I think you are a smart person who may have had some college schooling in the US, and I have no problem with your comments as you are polite and respectful, but I still feel you are either a local working for this website or for the People's Party....no offense.
nevermind:
After Rome the world was rudderless for a long time, what makes you think China will do anything significant besides what CHina daily said?
crimochina:
if america goes down to second that's bad for china, because we'll instantly stop importing your crappy products. leaving many jobless people in the streets
Dude,
Get real, I have more degrees than a therometer! W civ, been there done that! Mostly a Math, Science, Engineering guy, but did have to take those libtard liberal arts useless courses!
China invented alot of good things (back in the day while not communist)..eyeglasses, paper, gunpowder etc.
Under commie rule, what has been invented instead of stolen? Please advise!
If greed and corruption lost the nation, China is already lost!
I would ask for my money back if you’re “Western Civilization” Collage course went straight from the Roman Empire to the United States of America. If it missed out the European Empires and British Empire it must have been and interesting course in missing history.
mattaya:
I think you got collage and college mixed up. A collage is a picture made by pasting various materials on a flat surface. A college is an institution of higher learning.

America is so worried for losing leadership, this is why they beef up the military in Australia, war heads set in Europe, yes not for Russia, maybe not the people on the streets but the USA`s higher ranks are crapping themselves. They blaming China for their own mistakes of the past...e.g. importing goods from China and close down many industries.
beaufortninja:
Fritze. You really have to learn about an issue before opening your mouth. America is moving their soldiers from Okinawa because they're in range of Chinese missiles and moving them to Australia where they're safe and can dominate the Indian Ocean as well as the West Pacific. China has caused many problems for America and they will be responsible for World recession part 2. I know you like China and all but at least make an effort to be correct.
