Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: Have and Own I was just informed they are the same thing
Apparently Im owned and we own our children and we own each other just as if we were a object not people
we talked about it and it seams it is just one of those things lost in translation (I think?)
are there in your life incidents that come under the same banner ?
Phil, I'm confused by your post,
'intestacies' to the best of my understanding comes from intestate which means with no legal will (as in document left after your death), do you perhaps mean inconsistencies?
As to the difference between have and own in English at least the difference is quite stark.
You own something it belongs to you, it is your property in perpetuity it is a chattel.
If you have something, it is in your possession but it may not even belong to you,
e.g. I have your wallet, do you want it back?
As to children, I would never say I 'own' children, the one I have fathered is 'my' daughter and she will always be 'my' daughter but she isn't 'mine'. In this case 'my' is a possessive adjective ('my' describes the noun daughter) and 'mine' is a possessive pronoun. (Good job I just did a lesson on pronouns this morning )
I try and adopt the attitude that I am the temporary custodian of my daughter with a responsibility to society in general, and my daughter in particular, to try and teach her how to be a valuable asset to society while still being a successful and independent person.

I didn't read this as an estate or wills question, but ... So a testator may own something, but the person who possesses it has it, has actual physical possession? Maybe those who 'have' are trustees or bailees. Chattel is personal property. One could have or own real property as well. So if I have something in China I could be the owner, bailee or trustee? How will I know?
May one both have and own chattel and real property? We may never know.
Hugh.G.Rection:
No Bill, Phil made a typo in his first post and it confused me, hence me talking a load of irrelevant poo. He has since corrected his typo so my post seems a bit left field now.
It's all about tenses and adjectives and crappy translations (both ways).
I could tell you stories of bad translations gone bad.....but I digress.
Recently she told me I was her boss and according to Google translate she was sleeping at her bosses house...good times...did not end well.
Hugh.G.Rection:
I don't know why but someone is being childish and giving thumbs downs to all posts in this thread including the OP, so I've given thumbs up to all posts as a kind of balance.
GuilinRaf:
Yeah, whenever I see ALL the posts have been thumbed down, I almost automatically thumb everyone up...
philbravery:
It has been getting worse over the last week and it usually comes in two's
thedude:
It's mostly 981...it has toned down since your comment but give it time.
WonHungLo:
and who wood give matt a thumbs up? 981 may have just done matt, but he seems articulate while matt is insane, both are online.
thedude:
true...never did I insinuate the 2 were the same.
But let's think about this. 2 emails and google chrome as well as internet explorer (or firefox) can create many people online at the same time from the same ip and computer to boot...hhhhmmmm.
Edit add on...I know this not because I am a troll but because I know IT systems and how they work....I am not that insecure....1 online alias is enough for me.philbravery:
I win
I get the skitso down vote plus my own fan club on top of that
anybody want to trade?
No have and own is not the same. You can be borrowing something and then you can say you have something that belongs to someone else. For this reason if you have something it does not mean you particularly own it!
philbravery:
We know that Matty
I was asking if others have had similar situations with English to Chinese
but again I thank you for your input
(this concludes todays be nice to the less gifted hour)
