Q: Have you ever walked out of a restaurant if order took too long?

I recently went to a B rated restaurant. Nothing fancy, nothing incredibly pricey but not cheap either.

Anyways, there were 4 of us (3 foreigners) and we were made to wait forever for our food. People who arrived after us got served before us. After 30 minutes waiting, we complained (in Chinese). Of course the only answer we got was 'shao deng'. We waited another 15-20 minutes for our food.

Again, the dishes were nothing fancy (no fish, etc...). Only reason we stayed was because our Chinese friend insisted we stay. But is it okay in your mind to just walk out after having ordered if you're made to wait that long? Or have I become too used to the speed at which they bring food in China?

In most restaurants/bars, if you walk out the amount of the bill (whether the food was served or not) usually comes out of the servers paycheck.

I was made to wait an hour at a bbq joint when it wasn't even crowded. I asked the waitress twice about what was taking so long, and bounced. Went across the street to another bbq restaurant and got my food in 15 minutes. Punish them for poor service!

I'd leave, and make sure they knew why I was leaving. When you're hungry you're hungry, dammit!

Yes I have, and got my money back. They were really embarrassed and apologized once I decided to leave but after over and hour of waiting (at a simple Korean restaurant mind you) I couldn't take it.

Before you judge someone walk a mile in their shoes, that way you're a mile away and you have their shoes!

Yup, and it won't be the last! Unless the beer is cold, then I can be convinced to hang for a bit.

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
