Q: How can I get a Canadian passport for my baby?

I know there is a lot of information out there but I wanted to ask if any of you guys had gone through this procedure. We will have the baby in March and want to get a Canadian passport asap. I know we must go to the Canadian Embassy but I don't want to make any mistakes here. Would love some advice on this.

Thanks guys!

You'll need your marriage certificates and the baby's birth certificates translated and chopped (you need to use an official translation service). Even if the baby's birth certificate is already bilingual it still needs to be translated.

You also have to make sure that you tell the hospital that you will be applying for Canadian citizenship as some hospitals (at least in Guangzhou) will not allow you to deliver there under those circumstances.

Choose the baby's name wisely...too many characters cannot fit on the birth certificate and the baby's name on the citizenship has to be the same as on the birth certificate or you would have to go back to Canada and apply for a legal name change.

The embassy/consulate will suggest getting the citizenship card first then the passport. The citizenship takes six months.

Good luck.

I would love to help... I have lots of time...  but the quagmire in Canada has me somewhat disgruntled with their competence and not so timely decision making processes.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

The name is a good tip.  This is why neither of my boys have middle names.
