Apparently China has blocked all the websites that offer VPN's, would I be correct in assuming that I'd have to use a friend's computer that has VPN in order to buy the service for my computer? Is that possible? I've been here in China for 8 years so it's about time to break through the "Great Firewall"

I used a windows 10 computer. The microsoft store on W10 has a list of free VPN'S. I chose
VPN lite by keepsolid which I then used to access VPN sites to register, pay and download a VPN.
Tor doesn't work in China.
As soon as you exit China, get VNP connection abroad.
There used to be no firewall in HK. I saved all blocked weblinks under the file 'HK', and when I was in HK, I had a read, copy&paste, and all ..
Your best bet is to tether your phone to someone who already has a VPN and do it that way to contact and buy your VPN.
You can also find the VPN service that you want to use, call them using Skype or other service, and work through their customer service. They will more than likely have a work-around website that you can use.

Chinese look after the Vnps really well. I used to use free one at Opera browser and it suddenly got blocked.
I tried to d/l TOR and I was unsuccessful until I came to HK.
ExpressVPN hands down the best and only option, great customer service, it might seem expensive , but you get what you pay for !. As a disclaimer beware owning or using a VPN to my knowledge is neither legal or illegal depending on if you are a company that needs it for business or are a short term visitor , but you may have to fact check that for yourself.

As soon as somebody mention the name of the Vnp provider, it gets blocked.
That is the real purpose of such questions here.
Never, ever post the name of the Vnp here ...

Impossible to block , China has been trying to do that for decades!
Stiggs:
I've known of a lot of cheap or free ones stop working, presumably blocked but the big, popular names that have been used for as long as I've known about VPNs have always worked ok.

Opera's free one works elsewhere, i.e. out of China. TOR can also be d/l everywhere even in Russia.
You could try using TOR ( The onion router ) browser , if that doesn't work , yes it is possible to use another PC that has the ability to access the VPN website you want, set up an account and then they will send you a link via email to download it . Only go with the top and trust sites as most are unreliable .

As I remember, it was impossible to d/l the TOR in China and when I came back with TOR from HK, I couldn't open it on mainland.
Download copies of Epic Privacy Browser which has a built-inproxy, & ProtonVPN, which has a free version. Unlike most free VPNs, like Windscribe, ProtonVPN doesn't have a limit on usage, just locations. The locations available are the US, Netherladns & Japan. BTW, Proton was blocked for a while 2 years ago, but broke through the so-called "great" firewall. Epic's proxy also was blocked for a shorter time. One con with Proton, is it goes off now & then during the day, but automatically makes attempts to connect until it does. Sometimes taking longer than other times. And although Epic is based on Google, it doesn't allow adding Google apps & extensions. Better to use it & another browser like Comodo. Happy surfing. And I hope you checkut China Uncensored & China Digital Times for the best real mainland news.
