By bus, subway, car ? Do your company provide a car to pick you up ? How much time do you spend every day on the way ?
I live across the street, takes 5 minutes to walk. My car sits in the parking lot collecting dust. In China that's not just an expression.
I ride my bike. 35 minutes there, 50 min back.
If I didn't have my bike to ride I'd definitely kill myself by jumping out the window.
Bike ride (10 minutes, on dedicated bike lanes) or walk (30 minutes). I use the free, public city bikes.
Drive. 10 minutes there, 45 minutes back. Thanks road crew with zero progress in a year and a half!

There's a legend that says that it's a social welfare policy for migrant workers...

oh god every country does BS road work. I forget which show made a good point about that prolly the wire that if they dont spend their budget in a year they'll get less the next year so they come up with stuff to do.
No...it was the movie falling down. Thats it.
I am thinking about getting good bike, but it will be crazy.
Currently I walk 10 minutes to waiting point, where pick me up shuttle bus / Ford Transit. Driver is often speeding over speed limits on highway, yet it still take about 40-50 minutes to reach workplace. going back is much worse, when I can not do it under 90 minutes in most days.

Wow, that's a crazy commute. What kind of bike are you thinking of getting?
Nessquick:
think about some with 2 rocket launchers in front and nuclear reactor to help pedaling :D all taobao or tmall have never seen this :D
or the one used for tour de france :)
DrMonkey:
@Nessquick For the Tour de France, it's more about freak biochemistry than bike design...

'Cervelo' made my favorite carbon frame, and for Shanghai I would recommend Campagnolo/SRAM components.

When I first arrived here a year ago, I began using the bus system, and occasionally I used taxis as well. But, I found the busses to be too unreliable (sometimes it would arrive late, sometimes early, sometimes on time). Seeing that cars here were too ridiculously expensive, that traffic was often congested, and that there were many bad drivers on the road, I opted to get a gasoline-powered scooter that can maneuver through traffic jams, looks impressive enough, and can go almost as fast as a motorcycle. It was about 7000 RMB.
Subway. Takes me 35 minutes, but thinking of getting a good bicycle (right now I have a really rickety one), or an e-bike.
Depending on the weather and pollution I either walk (35min) or take subway (30min)
I walk 10', and must cross 2 streets outside of the Campus.
I spent the last two years driving everyday, 50km round trip. Current work from home but drive to factories in Guangdong 1-2 days each week. I actually enjoy driving here (most of the time!)
I work whenever I want (well within reason), wherever I want (as long as I got me some internet) and I use whatever way I can to get there (usually my motorcycle or taxi).
One of the perks of working online.
I have an e-bicycle (yes bicycle not bike) that can go as far as 100km with a fully charged battery. From my home to my workplace it takes about 20 minutes, the complete journey is on large avenues with bicycle lanes separated from the main lanes by fences and greenery, and they are too narrow for cars to have the guts to get in, safety is not an issue.
E-bike. Cheap and reliable. Takes 7 minutes to get to work. Not so good after drinking baijiu.
I walk to work...it takes about thirty minutes if I stop for coffee, exc, on the way.
