Q: How much does it cost to treat a head injury?

I was recently kicked and beaten over the head with blunt objects, and after a month or so, I've started having small seizures and lots of other really strange and scary problems. How much will this cost to handle in a Chinese hospital? I'm running low on money, but i do have health insurance....however I've never used it. i have good health insurance back home, but cant leave due to responsibilities. Any advice will be helpful......thanks.

thanks for the help everyone.....do you know if ill get deported if they find out what ive been experiencing ? i know head injuriees and mental disabilities arent looked too favorably on in china...

you have responsibilities? then make use of your health insurance here if you have it. If you are having seizures, then you are in a very bad way!!!!  Head injuries if not treated on time can cause permanent disabilities in the near and not so near future!

As far as I can tell, you will need to get head CT scan as the first screening test, it costs 330 rmb in most Chinese hospitals, then depending on the results you may need to get head MRI scan after that which cost around 1000 rmb.

If you want to save some money, you can consult the physician first, he/she  may recommend you to skip CT scan and  get  MRI only, because MRI is better in detecting brain problems. Also expect few blood tests which will cost not more than few hundreds.

As for treatment, drugs won't be very expensive, and I hope you won't need surgery.

This is very rough estimate. I hope it helps, and I also wish you get better soon.

Did you have a concussion?

your health insurance back home would have covered you if you had sought help from the beginning, they may not now. Either way, you need to get that shit looked after otherwise you're not being really responsible to anyone.

if you are an american, you can use poverty guideline based on income and get medicaid or medicare, not sure which one, names confuse me, and use this in guam or closer saipan. fly there for treatment and come back. also if you are a veteran , treatment available at military base in south korea.

many retired americans do the annual check up in saipan that live in philippines or thailand

It will definitely cost you a pretty penny. Getting a checkup was quite costly I thought and if you are talking about a head injury with pains and the likes you will more than likely be looking at purchasing medicine from the hospital. Also, therapy and the - x-ray if you get one could cost you quite a lot of money. I can't give an exact estimate but definitely over 100 usd.

if you have a chance go to hk mate, if you have insurance they will see you right away, and you will get the best kind of treatment without them asking a huge some of money upfront,

stan118:

the reason is say this is cos in china often doctors will tell you to buy things you dont need so they can reach the hospital monthly sales targets, and since most chinese patients dont know much about hospitals they usually just listen to the doctor and pay, so my advice is go to hong kong, they wil sort everything out, the only thing you will have to pay for is transport to hong kong
