Q: How much is a small Chinese made car?
And how long would it last?

Depending on model selected and accesories, I have seen them from 80,000 to 120,000 Rmb.
As far as how long it will last, will depend mostly on how much you use it. From one day to many years, I would say.
The poster above is incorrect. RMB 80,000 + will buy you a very decent car in China.
The small, tiny Chinese cars that can barely take a Western body inside can run from RMB 30,000 - RMB 50,000. These are the small, small ones that you will see on the street with their flash magnetic paint jobs.

At least in my city, 30 to 50K will not buy you any Chinese made brand new car, no matter how tiny it could be. A friend just bought a two year old used one, made in Japan, 6 pssgrs, and paid 170K for it, was 325K when new. You can buy a "made in China" foreign brand new, never used, compact car here from 80 to 110 K locally.
A Lotus, a Honda or maybe a Kia or similar.
30 to 50 K will get you a used one, maybe 2 to 4 years old. I am presently checking prices and options because I am in the market for one, so my info is fresh. And to me a car is something that will trake my 183 cms frame in without having to have cramps every 10 minutes.
If you are considering spending around 100k RMB I would look to buying something like the Buick Excel. Talk to most Chinese and they will tell you that Chinese cars are not made very well. I believe the only Chinese cars to achieve European safety standards are the new Emgrand models that came out last year. Ask yourself why most cars on the roads are foreign and not Chinese? Also if you are in a city do you really need one when buses and taxis are so cheap. We looked at possibly buying a car here but after working everything out decided it wasn't worth it.
The cheapest I have seen is the BYD F0 for around 30-35k. There are lots of other brands too that come in under 50k.
I reccomend using Google Chrome browser to view the site since it is in Chinese and Chrome is nice enough to translate it for you.

Xpat.John, thank you. This is what I was referring to in my previous post. Car prices across China are rather standard. My boss recently bought a new car here and not a major one at that he paid far less than RMB 80,000, even less RMB 60,000 for it.
I have seen adds and displys at malls.... and saw new cars from 24,000... its like a minivan/bus.. i also saw smaller cars less attractive than the BYD F0 for 28,000 to 30,000.. i can assure you you can find it in your city, some cars you have to pay for transportation from the factory to your city..
