Q: How much is too much for you when shopping in China?

What are some of the things that let's say you can get cheaper in your own country as opposed to China? What kind of things would be too expensive for you if you went shopping? For me a lot of the clothing would be too much considering I can get name brand clothing much cheaper back home. What about you?

I have not found one single item yet that it is more expensive here than at home.  And allow me to qualify this before my head is chopped off, I am not including items that are flown in from abroad.
Take shrimp, for example.  They go for 18 to 23 Rmb per half kilo, back at home it is over 6 dollars a pound.

But to your question, take Bisquick.  I can make muffins, bisquits and pancakes with the mix, as my fancy strikes me.  Back home it is about 3 dollars ba 5 pound box.  Here, same thing, is clase to 60 Rmb.  If I stick with the name brand "Bisquick" then I must accept the higher price.  But if I am lucky to find wheat flour, then forget brand loyalties.

And in the clothing area.  I can get all designer troussers I want for 87 Rmb each.  Shirts are also under 100 Rmb.  Underwear is also dirt cheap here.  Where are you shopping, at fancy malls?.  Switch to street markets, you will save a ton of money.

IMHO Shopping in malls and for name brand anything is sort of crazy, albeit dumb in china. The quality is surpisingly and frequently bad.  I'm with Happyexpat on the street markets...the real gold mine
