You must have been desesperate for new points last evening when you posted all these questions ( and notice, I did not use a word to qualify the questions).
What does reliability of the cars has anything to do with solving traffic jams ? Or chasing traffic law violators ?. Wouldn't be the experience of the driver of the car behind a wheel has a lot more bearing on a succesful ending?.
I only have witnessed a "chase" in China, at Guangzhou, a Police patrol car chased a pickpocket on foot, and finally caught up with him. Lasted maybe 30 seconds, the car did work fine, the driver was pretty good, caught up with the guy running away, went pass him and turned to block his way. Two patrolmen left the vehicle and got the thief.
Since I am not expose to cop cars in China (or elsewhere), I can really not say how reliable they are. But I have not seen one broken down on street or road, not one being pulled by a tow truck.
I would be more worried about the speed of the bullet coming your way.
Oh wait
thats in Victoria Aus
Michael Thomas, I suggest you stand in front of one speeding at you, and you can tell us if you or the car get dented more.
The question really should be "Do cops ever pursue motorists that break the law?"
On many occasions I've seen people blow through red lights with a cop car sitting on the side of the road, and they apparently didn't even bat an eye. I've never seen anyone pulled over, and the only tickets I've seen written are on cars parked in a no parking zone along the street in a business section.

Probably could be, but since it is probably known that many do not pursue motorists that break the law it is interesting to know if they would be reliable if they were to chase a motorist in a high speed chase. If they don't ever chase them I couldn't say anyone on the road would have enough experience to pursue a high speed chase.
I would say they'd be pretty reliable. They buy new cars, right? And, since it's the government, they'd buy decent cars, I'd think. But those cars weren't meant for chasing.
Most of the cops in Shenyang drive around in crappy vans or old squad cars. I was very supprised when I first came here as i always assumed that as in most other countries the cops would get some decent cars that were well maintained and regularly updated. I saying that the crappy cars fit in well with their attitude and attire.
