Q: I miss Thailand...do you?
Just got back from Thailand, and I miss
1) People not staring at me cause I'm a foreigner
2) People not screaming on phones in public places
3) Internet works, fast and little censorship
4) Clean air (except Bangkok)
It's getting harder to go back to China each time I leave...

Yes!! Apart from the pesky taxi drivers that try and take you to tailors, Thailand is a fantastic place to be.
When you see expats in Thailand, they are all very relaxed, happy and have nothing bad to say about it. Unlike China, where a lot of the expats are under stress, dealing with visa issues or just sick and tired of being here.
yes. I think TL is a nicer place to live than China. Might not make as much money, but standard of living is higher and not as much money is needed. Well, that is my opinion.
I miss:
1. that steak joint on the highway 20 minutes north of Khon Kaen
2. the cute way the girls look with that talcum powder on their face
3. the general, laid-back, at peace with the world vibe of the country & people
4. the Wai ( the best greeting of any peoples, of any country)
5. the open air markets and especially the freshness and healthiness of the veggies :)

Thailand was a relaxing place with a lot more sense about it for sure.
Also more security concerns than China but nothing major.
I can forget about learning the Thai language though... It's terribly hard!
I'm going to the Philippines in a few days....chosen specifically because its maritime disputes with China precludes throngs of rude Chinese tourists (don't get me started on the time I saw the Angkor Watt during CNY...people act like dumb animals). But, I feel you. There is always the last night in a civilized country, where the idea that you could just not come back crosses your mind.
I'm moving to Southeast Asia in a few months though. I can't wait.

Unless you REALLY get off the beaten path, you should still expect to encounter Chinese tourists while in the Philippines, especially if you will still be there during CNY (went there the past 2 CNY's, not sure about this year). Maritime disputes never discouraged any nongs from taking advantage of reasonable airfare to and accommodation costs while in the Phils. Good luck!

Aw, shoot. When I went to Vietnam during CNY, it was gloriously short on the nongs. But, then, Vietnamese are unapolegetically adamant about how much they dislike them. Do the Filippinos understand not to take the Chinese word on anything, or will I be scuba diving/snorkling with a bunch of retards who thought it would be clever to tell the guides that they know how to swim when they don't?

The Chinese have been coming to the Phils long enough for the locals to know what's up. Me and the gf don't dive, as she's the typical Chinese with zero swimming ability. But diving seems to be the popular thing to do for other Chinese I've seen while in the Phils. I'm guessing most places would at least make prospective divers prove themselves in a dive pool before heading out to open water. Good luck and have fun in the Phils. We're gonna give Bali a try this year....guess there will be more Chinese there than in the Phils
