Q: If a person works at a university for one year starting in sept, they get paid for 10 months or 12?

I know that one can start in February and get paid through the summer then finish in January 12 months later, but what if you start in September?  Will you simply get a worse deal than the person who started in February?  It seems strange that your work would finish in June then you would be paid for July and August then go home at the end of August.

most universities give you a salary for sep to jan , then a small travel allowance for the holiday about 1100 to 2200  for feb , salary again mar to jul , august travel allowance,

a good university will give you july and august pay along with plane fare about july 5 to 10th.

some schools will screw you if you dont sign again and only pay july and august when you return for another contract year and only give you the plane fare.

some schools will hold jan and feb travel pay to make sure you come back to finish contract because many teachers hate their school and fly home during spring festival and dont come back.

starting in september is better for moving on to greener pastures unless you find a place you want to stay at beyond a year.
this does not apply for training schools , totally different

Thanks.  I'm not concerned with travel allowance, or airfare reimbursement, as those are separate issues.  I was just wondering if a person can easily get two months of free salary by starting around February so that you contract is forced through the summer months (as I did at Jiangsu Uni), whereas if they start in september there would be no reason for the school to pay you for the summer months.  I'm considering going back, and it just seems odd that people can gain or lose two months of free pay based on when they start.  I know there's no hard rule about this, I just wanted to know if there is a general rule.
