Q: Importing dog or cat

How difficult is it for an average Chinese person to import a dog or cat? I can't bring pets into China, but maybe I can sell one and deliever it.

Bringing pets into China is difficult and expensive.  The biggest problem is the quarantine.  But the rules are different from city to city, so you would need to ask folks in your local area.

For the average Chinese person?  Next to impossible.

Anything (even pets, if they are not your personal "property") needs to be brought into China with specific licenses and meet requirements.  For pet animals, only certain breeds are allowed, every animal must be fitted with a microchip (although I don'tthink cats require this if they are house cat breeds), pass a health inspection from the country of origin, another health inspection in China, and about 1 month quarantine.  They must also be spayed/neutered unless you have a breeders license as well I believe, but I'm not 100% sure.

Many large cities like Shanghai have pet breed clubs you could contact for more information.

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
