Q: Is it just me or is fashion here generally pretty 80s style?

Leopard skin boots, leather skirts/jackets, mental hairstyles.... I feel like I've walked into the world of the new romantics.

Some of it is yes, but I wouldn't go as far as saying all the styles here are like this. I've seen the leather outfits and leopard clothing. Actually it looks quite sexxy on some of the females!

Just think about the B-52s and Duran Duran to put you in the right frame of mind. Don't forget the guys in skin tight pants and jackets. How do they even put those jackets on? Do they Hulk-tear them the first time they wear them?

The girls look like overdressed kaleidoscopic runway models. Cute but ... Ladies, may I suggest jeans and a top? That's all you need. Please? Please?

Wait, what was the question?

Yes, legs rule. They say pants are more convenient, whatever that means, so I'll settle for not-too-tight jeans without all the pop, punk, ska, new wave, metal or whatever accessories. But yea, legs rule, and dresses and skirts are preferred.

Ted you are right. However there are two kinds of skirts, one from the 80ies and one from present day.

Women at home, hmm, where at home, where it is - how much Fahrenheit /Celsius, of course they wear jeans and pants, it is warmer here( you try wearing a skirt in minus 5. And for your information, dresses and skirts are the fashion everywhere in the world this season, they are in stores right now and women "at home" can't wait to wear them when it gets a little warmer. Go a little more up north in China, let see if all the women wear skirts all the time, I saw a lot of Chinese/asian looking women and girls in the States and they all blended in.

Yeh, you've hit the nail on the embarrassing haircut with that 'new romantic' reference. But have you seen Russell Brand, the comedian in England? He takes credit for creating this new hairstyle (front combed down and the back stuck up) when it is clearly a (horrendous) Asian design.

As far as I can see, fashion is just another word for 'something that looks absurd in retrospect'.

A lot of it appears to be a crazy clash of 70's, 80's and 90's trends, not really items that people actually wore without trying to be sarcastic or scene. I think what happens is when people here watch music videos from different countries and different eras, they believe that people actually dress that way.

I have a feeling its the same when people watch the televised high fashion runway shows. No one wears those fantastical pieces either but you wouldn't know that unless you lived in those countries.
