Q: Is it possible to take a translator for driving theory exam?

Hello guys.

I want to make my driving license but the english translation of the test really sucks. I've also purchased an app but my maximum score is 89 and it's not increasing because some questions really don't make any sense. I would like to know, that can we take a translator with us for the theory test to the examination hall. And i'm having license from England. Looking for your kind replies.

kind regards

Not sure about the translator, but the test is quite easy. The theory test has little application to actual driving. Just memorize the answers to the questions. Doesn't matter if they make sense or not. Driving in China is a free for all where only your driving skills and common sense matter.

This is an actual word for word from the English translation (I took a screen shot):

When a motorized vehicle causes a road accident involving property damage, if the party leave the scene on his own but does not leave, the traffic police are not allowed to order the party to leave the scene. Right or wrong?

You can take the test in English.

iWolf has a point. The translations is horrible, but you only need 90 out of 100 correct, so there is some room for language misunderstandings.

The English translations are completely inaccurate and lead you to mistakes, you can pay someone to correct your answers, a friend of mine did it, his "agent" told him to simply walk out without submitting his answers when he reached the end, his guess is the agent walked in, sat in front of his computer and corrected the wrong answers before submitting it.

hi2u:

There's a webcam on the computer that watches you while you take the test to ensure you don't cheat. Your friend's agent would have to pull an inside job to do that.

I doubt every cities have webcams or CCTVs in each and every computers and even if they have I doubt even more that the guy who is paid barely above the minimum salary to sit in a room and watch out for cheating gives a damn about his job, especially in smaller cities. China is not limited to first tier cities, my buddy lives in Shunde in Guangdong, per capita GDP number 2 in China but still a third tier city in terms of rules enforcement.

Hotwater:

When I got my licence I paid an agent to arrange it as I didn't have the right visa at the time. I sat in an exam room of only foreigners. The test was set in English to look like I'd done it. I sat in front of the computer/webcam for one hour & did nothing. Two Chinese guys ran from PC to PC, crouching down our of sight while using the mouse to answer half the questions. Once they'd done the whole room they went round & answered the other half for everyone. Obviously everyone passed!

Everyone had to pass through a security checkpoint to get into the computer testing room where I live. Your city's lack thereof astounds me.

My experience was 3 years ago and the agents don't take foreigners to that test centre anymore....I guess because the tightened up on cheating. If you want to pay for a licence in Guangdong now you have to fly or take the train to another area.

Agree with you translations are horrible, and the questions themselves are absurd.  i recall one, " if you drive into a lake, what should you do?"   1.  call 110, 2.  open window  3.  open door  4.  hold breath

taking a translator all depends on jursdiction is my guess

As far as I know you cannot have an interpreter when taking the exam. The exam is now offered in several languages and you must select one of those to take the exam - that none of them can be your country language makes no difference.
English translation is indeed horrible but majority of the questions refer to the common sense. Usually the person used to drive out of China can score over 80 points for the first time. The rest 10 are however a bit tricky - you really need to study a bit. But at the end it should be manageable. The booklet just looks scarry but 10 days +/- with 1-2 hours of study every day should make it quite safely.
Or you can just try your plain luck - the chancec to get over 90 is quite high.
