I heard parents of newlyweds have to pitch in and buy their kids a house...any truth to that?

it totally depends up on the financial conditions of that family. don't you thin so??
Sure only for rich family, and it's true also kind of rediculous!

If your comment comes from you being a Chinese girl, then it's great to hear that. Either way it is true: this it's all ridiculous. In the Western countries, people fall in love then they get married because they love each other not because there is some materialistic gain in between. Of course there are similar histories too but not to the level to turn into a sort of marriage subculture.
Depends. But it's commom both family give some amount to support the new couple.
the condition is buying house or no marriage.. if they can not buy the house atleast they shall pay that much amount to support the couple at the start of their new life.......
First they are not kids. They are not even kidults.
They are all little Emperors and mommy and daddy are simply serfs and attendees for their benefit.
This is the lost generation, anti-social, spoiled rotten, 50% divorce rate etc. etc. etc
it is very common if the parents can afford, why not?
this is the tradition in China, ,,, the grandfather helps father, father helps son, son helps ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
just help children build a stable home and then start career, our ancestor told us: first marriage and the career, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Yes, that's true and crazy too in a today mortgage environment that brought mostly the whole world to bankruptcy headed by the US and Europe.
If the child is a boy, the parents start saving the money from his early age so that when the time comes he can be of interest to a woman. That far is what I understand as it looks women in China first require from a man to show up with a car and a house. That conversation I just had it with some Chinese people only to check if it's a myth or a reality. The confirmed it all.
I bought my son a house in California when he got married. He had to mortgage the house to pay $300,000 to the US medical profession for a relatively minor problem his wife had that our wonderful insurance company would not pay for . They are both represented by thousands of paid lobbyists. Wonderful system for the elected officials that have full coverage thanks to the dumb US tax payers. Franck3
As it happens my parents in-law are putting up 150,000 yuan for a place for me and the missus, which is amazing because he mum made nothing farming and her dad made about a thou a month as an engineer. I reckon they must have robbed a bank somewhere along the line. My kind of people.
From what I have seen of China the majority of people live in apartments. I saw very few houses. I think only the rich can afford a house. Even doctors that I know live in apartments. Not like in the US where doctors own half the town. Franck3
derek:
The poster is referring to apartment/house. In China, as you know there is no difference.
Well, It's China . depends on culture.
I wish to live together with my kids in my old age period & after that when he wants to move to new home, he will have to be on his feet.
derek:
You wish to live with your kids? How old should they be before they move out and become "independent"?
