Q: Overstayed visa > Go to H.K. apply for travel visa

So my friend has overstayed his tourist visa by a few days, he went to the police station paid the fine and recieved paper work that states it was a genuine mistake and that he should be allowed back in the country.  From there he is going to get a 10 day exit visa from the entry/exit bureau.  His plan is to run to H.K. and get a new tourist visa and re - enter.  Does this seem plausible?  Also I know on the application it asks have you ever overstayed your visa in China before, should he check yes or no?  Thanks in advance.

You'll only be able to get a 30 day visa, F,L,M in HK. But I heard if you pay 8000 HKD you'll get a longer visa, but need to stay in HK for 2 weeks or longer.

Nessquick:

add another 5000HKD for hotel and food, at least, for ths 2 weeks, and you find cheaper flights back home, small holidays and get proper visa at your home country :D

Tell your " friend" to put no on the overstay part.  They wont check, but if they do , play dumb and show the paperwork, you thought that negated it. If your in Guangdong going to HK should be ok, they can give more than one month but you might have to leave the country and come back once a month. Been seeing a lot of foreigners have to go throught that recently.  Nessquick is right, its better to just cought up the cash go home and get a real visa.
