Q: A real question, submitting visa application in Guangzhou

I'm doing visa application for GF to come back with me for visit, been after her but her friends haven't been over to help her. I'll tell her how she did it later. Last minute as usual, I read that I have to go to Guangzhou and make an appointment just to submit the application. This can't be right? If it is it's nuts. Any experience with submitting a visa for a Chinese to Canadian embassy?

I have to try, I wrote a good invitation letter.I'll flood them with BS also.

Ted, as I understand it, you must get on line and make an appointment, then on the date of the appointment go to Guangzhou.  If you are asking for the equivalent of us in USA calling it "tourist visa, good luck, all Canadians I know who asked for it were told "may you".  It seems they think she will stay there once she enters Canada

TedDBayer:

I hear her chances are slim, but what if they say yes. Partly why I took her to Thailand is she now as travel history in her passport.

Speaking from experience in trying (and failing) to get the ex an American tourist visa, she'll probably be better off trying to go it alone as opposed to even mentioning you.  Just have her tell them she's going for traveling by herself, IE, not visiting with her boyfriend.  She may have to show adequate and significant funds in her bank account, and strong ties to China to convince the consulate officials she will return to China....not sure what that is these days.  Best of luck.

TedDBayer:

i've written an invitation letter stating that she is a good friend , does all my errands and that i could not manage without help here. i would like her to visit my home as i must return or loose my OHIP health coverage l am down playing the boy friend part. she is self employed and I don't work in China.

Could go either way, if you can provide reasons why she would come back would be better. A contract from her employer, some financial documents, a house. I know some people have had luck without these things, but most of them don't. I would suggest if you would like to travel or invite her, you should both show contracts with a letter from the employer on what date she must be back and round trip air fare will improve your odds

No, this is correct. Best friend invited his Chinese gf to Canada. It's standard procedure, and Canada isn't even the hardest place to get a visa for.

Very important is the invitation letter from you. It really needs to be clear what your relationship is. Then comes the host of other administrative and financial documents proving, 1. That you or your family have assets in Canada and, 2. That your gf has assets (or a family with assets) in China and has a job or occupation.

They have a list of all required documents on the Canadian embassy's website. It's fairly straightforward and they respond quickly.

Of course, this isn't a small thing, so doing it last minute isn't going to help you...

Also, the Canadians don't ask for flight info, which is great (though, as techeeze said, it might improve your odds). I know some other countries that require you show purchased plane ticket info WITHIN your visa application, which is insane.

She works for herself and mostly seasonally. Not much bank funds. i'm going to put some in, i know doesn't show long term and a big jump, but it will show money for travel.she has no home, has family and a Collie, Would you leave Lassie deserted? She has to return for mothers 60 birthday.

Ted, with the information you have given, I would say your best bet is to have her go with a travel group. Once she gets a visa, they future visa's will be a breeze

Yes, they go through a travel agency which is actually quite inexpensive. After that, they get their visa after they put about 100k rmb in a bank that the embassy has access to, so if they don't return they keep the deposit. After their return the money is unfroze and their future visa's are simple and osme get 2 year multi entrance visas. My wife has a 5 year multi visa, I only applied for a two year visa.

TedDBayer:

So if I put $16000 in her account, they'd let her in? Thats not much security deposit. I spent that much on massages girls already.

I keep asking her to see if she will fit in my suitcase, maybe 4'11' beat 80lbs, she just sneers at me.

I had my my fat suit idea. get a really big suit and duct tape her to me,, I'd get past the metal detectors. Think anyone has tried this one?

No, 100k Ted, and it has to be frozen as a bank certificate, but this only works with a tourist agency, this guarantees that she will come back to China via the travel agency. Something to tell the embassy she has ties in China

There is another way honestly and I've helped some others do this. Take her to New Zealand or Australia, then apply for the tourist visa for Canada there. Once they see the Visa of these two countries, they will only ask her if she will go back home after travel.
