Q: Translator, what to study?

My girlfriend wants to do some translation work, maybe in an international trade type of field...I dont personally have any trade related experience so dont really know what is are the best types of things to be teaching her...
She has bought some books but from what ive read of them they seem to be outdated and the English is them is some times poor at best...

What i really want is a website or a book/set of books which are good for learning about the topic relating to international trade or interpreting in this area.
I think her English level is generally quite high but as neither of us have a background in this we dont really know what to learn about it.

Thanks for your help!!!

Bumping five year old threads is a bit like bringing up events that happened in 1839 or 1938 to make a political statement - it must be something deeply ingrained in the Chinese psyche.

there are too many informations in internet, but the most improtment thing are experiences. since your both don't know any things about international trade . i suggest your girlfriend should join a international trade company frist. whateever the company is big or small, learing trade experiences is first thing to do. since your girlfriend have a good english skill, i think it is not difficult for her to find a company. A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
