Q: A trip to thailand at the end of june?

Hey

Going to thailand at the end of June for 5 days

My original plan was to stay in Phuket and was wondering if 5 days was enough to travel around.

I'm also bringing my chinese gf (yeah yeah I know I know)

Any else to watch out for besides sneaky penises?

I don't think monsoon season is then so I probably don't have to worry about being washed away?

I was also planning on just booking a normal hotel instead of a resort, should be fine right?

Any other thoughts and advice are appreciated Smile

It will really depend on what you wish to accomplish.  I am also planning to go to Thailand this summer, but it will be later than you, I need for school to be out so we can include my GF's daughter in the trip.  We do have a plan for 5 days in Phuket, and 3 days in Bangkok, since it will be a pity to go there and not see many places of interest in Bangkok, and I do not mean the Cowboy area (but GF and me will visit it one night so she can see the action and me the girls).  The Imperial Palace, the Sleeping Buddha, many pagodas and temples, the river market, etc are areas of interest too for some.

I do my planning using Agoda website.  It allows me to find out room rates, get discounts, and find hotels that do offer free breakfast, plus earning points and rewards.  Then I check that versus an offer from a travel agent and select the one more convenient and reasonable.

The only suggestion I will have is to watch out for your valuables all the time, like passport, camera, jewelry if any, and currency.  Be aware of pickpockets, they are also in Thailand.  And if you are out in Bangkok and see a disturbance, walk away from in, do not get closer to it.

I was in Banglok and Phuket 3 weeks ago.

Check agoda for rooms, Same for China, but it hasn't rained much here. close,.

When you get to Phucket airport the lobby is full of places offering rooms My friends chose a place close to the beach, we still needed a taxi to get there. It was a dump, with construction going on next door. i wanted a NEW hotel farther back on the mountain, they had a free bus to the beach for the same money. I don't care about hotels really, i only sleep there and they all look the same once the light is out. We went to Pantong beach. I stayed 2 days in Bangkok.then 4 days in Pantong- wasn't long enough and then two and a half days in Bangkok. One day in Bangkok was enough, altho we did see the floating market. i wanted to se the Siamese ruins,, north of Bangkok, only thing i wanted to see and didn't. i went with GFs friends, pucked up my vacation big time because i never got to do what i wanted,.

At Phuket we took an all day boat cruise to see islands, it was OK, the colour of the water at islands was clear green like the pics, but it was too long for me and the speed boat rides way too long and rough on the ocean, it was a calm day too, but the banging on the waves just was brutal, everyone else slept, but they were Chinese. some islands the boat just stops and and you look at it like monkey island. Did one hour elephant safari which was cool. Lady Boy caberient - the dancing wasn't that great but good show.I wanted to lie on a beach and just eat and drink and see Go go bars, we never went to the beach,, just shopping and at night no one would go to a bar with me. My Gf said she didn't want to see temples, i said i didn't want to be walking, saw temples and walked and shopped the whole time, guess i could have gone to the beach alone, but why bring a GF, walking and walking, phuck i wa pissed. I'm sorry I spent so much time in Bangkok-depends what you want to see and wish I'd stayed in Phuket longer, but I never got to relax and the girls were always getting car sick. There are tour stands every where to buy tickets for everything you want t see, but you haggle for the price, check a few for starting prices.June will be off season, it wasn't very crowded when I was there. hotel was $27.haggle over everything you buy, walk away,, you know the drill. I didn't rent a scooter, didn't want to. i keep all my junk in my front pockets and just watch out, never had any problems with the locals, they people are so polite, not like China, funny accents.  I spent $5300 on my trip.

MissA:

Ted, you desperately need to take a trip back to Thailand, sans GF if necessary. The ruins at Ayuthaya are absolutely gorgeous, go back for them alone! (Then go lay on the beach with a cocktail)

Could you not just say to the gaggle of girls you brought along: "here's a couple of thousand baht, you take yourselves shopping, I'm off to the beach/pool/bar?" Then, everyone's happy! In any case, if ancient stuff is your thing, get yourself to Cambodia next time.

I went to be with my girl friend, so if she wants shopping, we go shopping. I didn't take her so I can do things alone, just wish they would do somethings I wanted. Like go to a frigging bar, lie on the beach. If they came I wouldn't get into trouble. How long will a lone white guy last in Phuket? You might as well put a tracking device around my neck. My last night I slipped out cause i wanted to see a Go Go bar, i told the girls i was married, but they just kept coming until I was too weak to fight them off.

If you are going with a gf/wife, go anyplace but Pattaya.  And never rent a jetski, they are all run by scammers that will claim you damaged the jetski and charge you ridiculous amounts to fix it.  And don't think the local cops will help, because the scammers are giving them a cut.  Other than that, Thailand is an awesome place.

many scooter renters do this also

Why Phuket?

Haven't been there but haven't heard many good things about it...

I don't care about beaches but there must be a nicer place around there.

Meh I guess it's just cause whenever someone goes to Thailand, I hear they go see Phuket, just thought I'd go see what all the fuss is about

TedDBayer:

Why go to Thailand, winter weather is better than China, go for the beaches or go for the Go Go Girls, Phuket has beaches end of story. There are other island and beaches that maybe less touristy, but depends how boring you are. More tourist offers more, maybe more crowded, but not in off season.

MissA:

Phuket can get a bad rep sometimes because people go only to Patong, which is really touristy and seedy and not that nice. The rest of the island is spectacular.

Why southern Thailand: good food, good beaches, good weather, super friendly people, good food, a culture perfectly geared towards hospitality, good value, the most spectacular coral reefs and did I mention the awesome food and people?

Hi chened;

June is typically the start of the monsoon season, but that's no reason not to go. It doesn't rain all day, it just pours down for a short-ish time most days.

The rain actually clears the air and the humidity away, and is, as guidebook authors love to write, a very welcome relief from the heat. As an added bonus, the rain provides a great excuse to sneak away for a beer.

Five days is fine to see Phuket island and maybe take one day-trip to one of the outlying islands. The biggest choice you'll have to face will be which part of Phuket to go to. The most central area, Patong Beach, has great nightlife and is an awesome place to party, with all the tourist facilities, but it's insanely over the top and has and loads of touts, and that gets old pretty quick. The development makes what should be a spectacular beach somewhat... disappointing.

If you're working to a reasonable budget, and after a romantic getaway with your GF, then Karon and Kata beaches (just a little to the south) are actually much nicer. It is resort central, but there are cheaper, decent hotels as well. I second Ted's suggestion that you look at agoda; I've booked a few hotels in Thailand with that website and they've always been kick-ass value. Phuket is one of the most expensive parts of Thailand FYI.

Of course, if you're not set on Phuket, there are many gorgeous beaches in Thailand, with everything from crazy party towns to almost deserted beaches and everything. Nobody can really recommend you where to go without you spelling out in more detail what kind of holiday you're after.

Well, if you are going with your woman, I guess its fine...I hope you like crowds angel

I usually try to stay away from those places...and travel alone, backpacker style.

I went to Thailand this winter for about 3 weeks, went to 8 places : Chiang Rai, Mae Salong, Pai, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Sukhotai, Lopburi and Bangkok and loved it. I prefer to see the country and its real people than seeing crowds of  tourists....I spent 2000 on this trip (that's RMB), plus plane ticket and bus in China (less than 2000).

TedDBayer:

don't know how you did that, I spent over 30,000 rmb with air etc. The one night I snuck out to a bar, I spent more that 2000

Well the North of Thailand is pretty different than Phuket I bet....I stayed in guesthouses for 100-200 baht for a single room...You can eat for 40, even in Bangkok...Depends on how you spend your time...My airfare was 1300 RMB return...from Shenzhen angel

A:Your potential employer is right! Demand for Medical exam before granting Z visa is to make sure, you won't be entering China in any abnormal and harmful to others condition.Few days after your arrival to China, you'll be required to complete another ME ... If ME in China will be OK, you'll get a Residence permit stamp into your book some 10-days afterwards. Imagine, you're an employer, who can sponsor my entry and work in China, but after my arrival to China would be found I carry some sickness, which would prevent Chinese .gov to issue a Residence permit. Rule is: Z visa should be converted into Residence permit in 30-days after entry to China.    So, my advice is:"Complete ME in your home country and forward medical results to your employer".Z visa grant will follow shortly afterwards. Employer is not wrong at their demand for the pre-arrival ME from your home country hospital.   -- icnif77
