It seems to be incredibly rare, but... today I met a 14 year old girl who already had a one-year-old baby... this is the only time I've ever seen it in all of China. Why do you think she didn't have an abortion like everyone else? I'm genuinely curious, but was too afraid to ask her in fear of offending her.
Wouldn't her family urge her to have an abortion to save face? She seemed very happy with her baby, if not a little shy.

It's perfect for the mother of the girl. A teenager getting pregnant will most likely mean the boy's parents will be out of the picture and that means more grandchild for selfish grandmother, and she can completely get her way with both of them as we know how young Chinese people are in talking back at their parents.
That being said, I think it is rare in China. Or maybe it is the lack of Jerry Springer like tv-shows. I don't think I have heard of teenage pregnancy in China before, obviosuly it happens, teenagers are after all teenagers.

What I refrained from saying was that her husband was 30 years old... I didn't say anything, but I was shocked.
Scandinavian:
Great. Then they have the foundation for a happy family.

Well according to some of the opinions about pedofiles from western countries teaching in China, does that age difference, with one of them being underage, constitute the same thing? Or the fact that they are married negates any reference to such a thing?
Hulk:
I don't know what to say, honestly. Obviously the little baby is a beautiful precious life, and they do have a happy family, but she's too young. I don't know how or why this happened, nor do I understand how it's allowed.
Scandinavian:
The age of consent is 14 in China, so technically if she is 14 years and 9½ months old at the time of giving birth that part should not be a problem. However, coitus with a person under 14 is treated as rape in China and I am guessing the punishment would be harsh. However in the case described here. There must have been some kind of business transaction between the girls mother and the girls husband since this has happened without a rape charge. I hope I never have to meet such a guy, he must be a very sad person.
So she has a HUSBAND, small chance for abortion
Those don't have a husband are most likely to abort, in my view only
And such things is indeed very rare, never heard one so far..and I am Chinese
It's about as common as you cooking dinner for me and washing my clothes on the weekend. It's not! There probably are underage mothers, but how many? Not a lot!
