Q: Visa crackdown 2012?

Will there be a visa crackdown this year due to the government leadership changeover?

Do you have to worry if your papers aren't false and you are legally here?

In Beijing. Police came to the office I work in and asked to see my visa which is correct (always carry my passport with me). But found it strange that they came in to see the visa and thought are they doing crackdowns.

Police (from PSB I guess) is normally doing that just about every day.  Maybe when they visited you it was your turn.

In general, those visits are either as a result of a tip from a coworker or neighbor a bit upset at you, and he/she calls them to get even with you, or as part of a routine check within a crackdown or a normal investigation.  The trick is to be always legal, and in compliance with all regulations.  Then you will have no fears or worries, and could not care less if there is a crackdown or not.

Actually, there is a crack down on visa issues going on but it is not for the change of power. We are seeing too many people on expired visa's, not working illegaly, but expired visa's, the latest one from Tianjin was a man who was on a 6 year expired visa.
