That red canned drink. Is it a good alternative to soda or is it just as bad for you?
It's not to my liking. The TV adds make it seem like a refreshing drink, but nah. Give me a glass of cold water instead (preferably water that barley flavored and somewhat alcoholic)
I am pretty sure you might as well have a cola, can't imagine there is any big difference in health benefits, the cola even have caffeine which do provide some health bonuses.
I think most soft drinks that are mass-produced aren't good for your body because they usually use something to enhance the flavour. Is it safe to drink ? probably, as long as you don't consume it on excessive amount. You can mix plain soda fruit juice/essence and other stuff to make a healthy and tasty drink. For example in my country we like: soda + orange juice + some kind of lumpy milk.
Either you trust the effects of herbal teas on digestion and your body balance (what they call 上火 but I'm not going to explain that) or you don't.
Either way, Wang Lao Ji is a super diluted version of the real TCM herbal teas you can find in Guangdong/Hong Kong. It is at best a placebo, or just another soft drink.
Real herbal teas are extremely bitter, worse than coffee.
With processed food and drink i follow the adage that if my grandmother wouldn't recognise it, i don't buy it.
Many supermarket drinks have the life processed out of them and are only popular due to aggressive marketing.
RiriRiri:
Sane way.
If you can read some Chinese, just grab any random bottle and read the recipe. Usually it reads: "Water, sugar, citric acid, colorant, random chemical". Frightening. On that matter, Wang Laoji is slightly better than the others. But the fact is, it's still mostly water if you compare it to the real dose a herbal tea should give you.
True 100% fruit juices, even dehydrated, are very expensive on the other hand. Globally, what I found out about processed food/drinks is that you get exactly what you pay for. The lower you go, the more chemicals, and the price curb is exponential if you want some nature.
They remind me of the sweet tea you can get at some American Chinese buffet style restaurants. Doubt it's any better or worse for you than a soft drink. Probably has just as much sugar, just without the carbonation.
I kinda went off sugar...i mean not entirely but drastically scaled it back, and now stuff like that tastes WAY too sweet.
It may have some good qualities as well, but you can taste there's a ton of sugar in it and so it's not going to be good for you. It's kinda...thick too, same probably with cola. i'll drink diet soda (i'm not a health nut, more of a mild fitness enthusiast) cause I like the carbonation (and can't afford to only drink Perrier) and to me it's just more refreshing;it doesn't have that syrupy texture you get from all the sugar in them.
It's not High Fructose Corn Syrup that's the problem either; when HFCS was approved/popularized America did become fatter but that's more that sweetness became cheaper than anything insidious about HFCS. In moderation it's the same.
I'm sure it's good for you because all the young, attractive people in the advertisements are so happy to drink it, and the announcer is so energetic!!
I kind of want to try the real thing now. Not just the processed commercial product.
