Q: What are those black mushroom-like things?
They are similar to mushrooms, but they aren't. They're black, and often mixed in with chicken. Before I came to China, I didn't like mushrooms, but now they don't bother me. I wouldn't mind taking a bag of these home for the family to try. What is the Chinese name? Have you eaten them? Do you like them?

black tree fungus - 木耳.(mu er = tree ears). I saw it once labeled jew ears in a restaurant, but thought that was a little strange.
They are often stir fried with chicken or pork. The texture is a little strange, but they are quite nice if cooked right.
