Chinese people say Mother Land, that is "祖国母亲."

I don't know the truth of this (it may be an urban myth) but I've always worked under the premise that Communist nations refer to the country as Motherland and Nationalist type countries refer to their nations as Fatherland.

Of course I'm thinking USSR and Nazi Germany in the main there.

Hugh, re Russia and the USSR, this is not true.  There is one word in Russian for motherland "родина" and there is a word also for fatherland "отечество".  They are used almost indiscriminately with the government favoring the motherland the church favoring the fatherland, but it really depends.

They say neither of those two. They say simply: " Middle Kingdom" I've never heard them refer to the country of China as either mother land or father land.

Why should they say either. Most i've met just call out 'Our China.' Haha, I don't have the heart to tell them it's about as much 'theirs' as England is 'My England.'
