Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: what is the difference in the cost of living between Guilin and Guangzhou?
Also the salary in Guilin is lower. I'm just considering the expenses.
When I came to China on a permanent basis, I compared Guangzhou and Nanning. A 200 sq meter apartment, furnished, in Guangzhou (depending on which area of the city) was between 10,000 and 20,000 Rmb per month rent. In Nanning was 3,000 to 4,000 Rmb per month. Food in general, clothes and others were higher in Guangzhou than here. This is why I choose the Green City to live.
In China, living in Beijing is the most expensive. Shanghai comes in at a close second place. And next will be Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
I only spent a short time in Guangzhou, but it seemed to be about as high as it gets in China, similar to Shanghai or Beijing.
Guilin is one of the lowest cost cities I've ever seen, though. I was paying 500 yuan rent for two bedrooms and a large balcony (not downtown, though, and no hot water; didn't seem like a problem as it was always 40 friggin degrees). And if you avoid downtown and touristy areas, prices are extrodinarily cheap (a good restaurant meal for two for 20 yuan, one that would cost you 50-80 in here in Zhejiang).
