What do you do to make yourself giggle instead of moan? Myself I still get a little annoyed when people openly eavesdrop on my conversations, just because i'm a foreigner, so i'll make up a language that consists of nothing more than the word 'boing' just to see how long they keep listening. Might even throw in an English sentence.....just in case. "Boiiiing, boing, b-b-b-boing-oing-oing, twelve inch pianist, a-boing boing boing boing." You should try it.....I mean.....if you have literally 'nothing' better to do with your time. Or when I first got here and had to bus it everywhere I used to sit at the back of a packed bus on which mine was the only foreign face and make like I was screaming as I looked out the window, just to give that one lone girl, walking home from school in the afternoon, something to puzzle over on her way home.
Got any yourself...or is it.....y'know...just me?
The window gag is pretty good. I like to make people laugh and that usually lifts me up too.
hhhmm funny things. Mostly fun little gags. I liked one fruit stand, the owner couple were friendly. I bought and ate a mango one day and asked for something to wipe my hands. While the guy was looking for something , I made like I was wildly wiping my hands in his hair and on the back of his shirt, his wife was in stitches.
I like to say "ni hao" to random strangers, to show off how good my Chinese is. Or look in people's shopping trolleys. Both of them get some very puzzled looks, but usually a smile as well. In China it does, anyway. Doesn't work so well in Australia.
When the Chinese shout "laowai" or "waiguoren", I top and take a good look round. Then shout "zhongguoren" with a surprised expression on my face. That tends to get them laughing.
In crowded restaurants, I sometimes get one of the old, boxwood type chopsticks, light one end then make it look like I'm smoking a cigarette. The looks that gets is amazing.
I sometimes also collect the little one mao silver coins until I have about 30 yuan. Then I take them in a bag to buy something. Annoys the brown stuff out of shop assistants who would rather be playing computer games.

HAHA. I do something similar but a bit different. Sometimes when I am walking down the street and hear that " laowai" word behind me, I start limping in a funny way as I walk away, then I hear "crippled laowai "(can ji laowai), it gives them more fun and I enjoy all that attention. Or when I get on the bus and find someone staring at me, I shake my hands, pretending to have tremors, and then enjoy seeing how amazed everyone seems trying to figure out what kind of weird disease I have! HAHA

Hearing 'Laowai' ten times a day can get boring pretty quick, it's true. On the odd occasion i've found myself react in annoyance by pointing to the sky in feigned surprise and exclaiming "Feiji" (aeroplane).

haha. That is funny too. I usually do the limping thing for migrant construction workers, it keeps their mood up for the next shift.
