Q: What horror stories were you told before coming to China?

Mine:

'I read about this one foreigner who was going out with a Chinese girl. They lived together and everything was great. After two years, he finished his contract and his company called him back home. The girlfriend took it as obvious he was gonna bring her back with him. He wasn't. She went into a fit of rage, tore up his passport, went to the closest police station and accused him of rape. He was kept in jail for a week before finally being allowed to return home.'

quickly followed by:

'I'm not saying this is the norm. Just, you know. Be careful over there.'

Something similar.

Starting a relationship with a Chinese woman, falling in love, etc...and being quickly told her parents were very sick and couldn't afford hospital costs, then being asked for 50,000 RMB for medical expenses.

Other horror stories involved drinking water or eating yogurt and pulling the lunch scene from Alien.

This is horror since we live in such a technology heavy generation. Someone told me that China have no electricity...

Now I don't know how that person could have the audacity to actually say that...I just figured she's a retard.

That living in China and breathing its air would be equivalent to smoking over 20 cigarettes a day.

I didn't listen. I should have.
