Q: What is it like to work in a Chinese hotel?
I've recently had a couple job offers from hotels. I would be working in a guest relations capacity, which is what I do in the U.S. currently. Has anyone done something like this? I have known many foreign teachers in Taiwan and China and a few business people, but never anyone who worked in a hotel so I have no idea what it would be like. Anyone?

From what I have observed, I think you could do better. I wouldn't see this as any great opportunity.
if i'm a guest at your hotel you better keep a rolodex of massage girls, because that's valuable info. could maybe have an arrangement with the girls and get a cut

Actually most hotels already do. Ever notice how once you step into your room your phone rings and a girls voice is on the other line? Guess what she is for.... For every customer who invites said lady into his room, the front desk person gets a "fee". Be careful though, lately in some hotels in the interior they (police) have been cracking down on this practice. First time you may be just fined, if a foreigner but next time you could face more serious consequences.
I have never worked in a hotel, but have stayed in many of them here for many months straight sometimes.
I think it would depend on the hotel. If it is a western chain (Hilton, Merriott etc.) it will probably be ok, depending on salary and benifits.
The problem is that depending on the city, or area, many fancy local owned hotels here cater to local businessmen with KTV girls.
I met a customer relations guy once at a hotel, at a KTV I was dragged to. The guy was from South Africa, and his job was to get whatever...ahem...the people wanted. I had to beat him back with a stick...he was quite pushy.
I would suggest that if you are seriously considering an offer, then get an L visa and visit the hotel before you agree to anything.
