Q: What kind of mozzy repellent is the best in your opinion?

Those pesky, annoying mosquitos have started to find their way into my flat and I'm waging an all-out war. In my experience, those plug-in devices with the repellent incense works best. Anyone found anything else to be effective? Are there any natural repellents for the home?

I have used Neem Oil and it works fairly well.

Eucalyptus Oil also helps.

Just thought of one more thing: use some of the sheets used in dryers for anti-static. Keep one on you, keep on bed. You can even rub it onto you. Seemed to help when I used. A suggestion about mosquito stings:

do not scratch but put onto it some vinegar, it usually stops  the itching.

Johnny Marr.

Seriously though, I'd say that a rub on stick or spray that you put on your body works well. I had a spray from the UK when I first came to China though unfortunately it's run out :(

Firstly no repellant is 100% effective for everyone all the time.

However, in my previous career I was advised by some VERY experienced people that natural garlic works best, eat a large raw clove or 4 every day, or if you cannot take the taste you can purchase natural garlic capsules, this then works it's way through your system and is released in microscopic amounts in your perspiration. Apparently mosquitos don't like the taste / smell in your sweat and stay away from you, however the human sense of smell is not acute enough to detect it.  Obviously this only works while you are sweating, or still have sweat residue on your body.

Change mosquito nets on your windows. That's first I do, when I hear mosquito in my flat.

I am not familiar with other bugs protection (repellant).

Run cold water on your bite.  That's the best solution for a bite as it takes the heat out of the pain, and thus the pain goes quicker.

We use the mosquito coils and they work pretty well for the apartment...but they smell terrible.

Also having the AC on in the bedroom will also help keep them at bay when sleeping.

Plants that repel mosquitos, lemon balm, marigolds, catnip, basil, lavendar, citronella grass. Also peppermint, rosemary, garlic, clove, eucalyptus, tea tree.

Using some of these plants, especially herbs, you can make your own natural mosquito repellent. Simply crush up the leaves with a mortar and pestle to release the oils and then add it to vodka (which is also proven to repel mosquitoes). Let your concoction sit for 12 hours. Once infused, add your natural repellent to a spray bottle and use as you would any store-bought mosquito repellent. With the right mixture, you can spray it on your food for added flavour.
