Q: What is the legal age to drink here in China?

Anybody know what the legal age is to consume alcoholic beverages in China is? And if the person that is underage and is caught drinking an alcoholic beverage what sort of penalty do they get if they are caught?

Why aren't you old enough to drink?. i doubt any store would ask a kid who a bottle is for and who would bother to call a cop if a kid bought something. Maybe if the kid stold it, someone might object.

Not even then!

The s hop where I bought my beer in Guilin , the one who often sold me my beer was a n 8 year old kid. Grandpa was too busy playing cards...

from where i am i've seen must be older than 17 years old in pool halls , as its a licensed venue may officially be 17.  But my guess is it differs from province.

The "legal" drinking age is 18, but it is never enforced. It is very common for parents to give their children wine at large or family dinners and it is common to see students as young as 13 at a bar drinking with their teachers. Convenience stores will also sell alcohol to anyone who wants it.

I'M CHINESE , THERE IS NO SUCH LAW SAID ITS ILLEGAL FOR CHILDREN TO DRINK WINE, BUT IT SAYS YOU CAN'T SELL WINE TO CHILDREN.... AND IN FACT, CHILDREN CAN GET WINE ANY WHERE THEY WANT.  PEOPLE  DON'T CARE, PARENTS WILL GIVE THEIR CHILDREN WINE DURING MEAL. IT IS VERY NORMAL IN CHINA, NO BIG DEAL.

I STARTED DRINKING BEER WHEN I WAS A KID. NO BODY WOULD EVER JUDGE YOU FOR THAT. ITS PART OF OUR CULTURE.

Bonita, no need to yell. And please see my comment above. It *is* the law that the legal drinking age is 18, but it isn't *enforced.*
