In the (growingly desperate) attempts at finding good Christmas gifts, I was thinking about how different regions of China have different specialities.
For instance, Suzhou is famous for its silk. I believe Fujian is famous for a special type of green tea.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Beijing is famous for many things. I would think a good bike in china because Beijing use to be famous for the number of bikes on the road. I have since heard the rumor that that number declined due to people buying cars. Still I'm sure Beijing is famous for it's bikes.
Harbin (Heilongjiang province) is famous for beer and sausage. (although I'm not the biggest fan of either)
Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Yunnan have a lot of minority Chinese, who have their own cultural backgrounds - so interesting stuff there!
Sichuan has pandas
Taiyuan is famous for vinegar.

Zhenjiang vinegar is better and I challenge the man who says otherwise.
Suzhou-silk
Wuxi- ribs
Shanghai- pear syrup candy
Guangzhou- dumplings/ exotic food
Xinjiang- furry scarves/ hats
Nantong famous for its bed linens and quilts
Xiamen famous for its tea leaves... especially tei guan yin
Dongguan also has the world's biggest dildo factory.
thedude:
Meaning they produce more dildo's than anyone else in the world. I have never been there but I also hear they have a giant dildo in the lobby, if that's what you were thinking.
