Q: What's more useful in China, street smarts or book smarts?
Does a degree matter at all when working in China? What's more useful street smarts or book smarts?
I think a book full of street smarts would be the most useful.
A degree gets you in the door. Street smarts keeps you alive in the classroom.

It like everything else in the world. It's not just black or white. It takes a combination of book and street smarts to make it in the world.
Street smarts if your occupation is outside, book smarts if your doing something that requires you to use your brain!
Anyone on the street with any smarts would throw their book at you.
In China, if you have connections, you don't need any smarts. Or good looks. Or money.
Don't know about you but I get my gritty energy from the mean city streets.
I would say book, then you always have paper for washroom
without regard to "speical Chinese guanxi working environment"here, you must have a good degree for you to get into the good companies here. China is still a nation most ppl appreciate true knowledges. Both book smarts and street smarts are equally important in here.
