After being hammered last year with the power bill I am trying to be careful this year.
Right now it's 28c in my apartment here in SZ but I still can't bring myself to turn it on.
What's your threshold? 24..28...or 35?
When I'm sitting around the house in my summer house clothes and still sweating, then I turn it on. Usually just in my 'office' as my family seem to like to slowly broil themselves. Usually that's around 30C, but in Nanning the humidity is usually quite high.
Daytime, at about 30C, sometimes a bit before that as the humidity can be very unpleasant. Bedroom is kept at 26C.
depends, i dont usually look at the temperature, i do like hot weather, but im grateful for air con lol but i never use ac in england doesnt get that hot, there was a time last year in guangzhou it was raining so badly outside and my apartment felt so hot and humid and what happened next bloody power cut(no ac), i thought i was gonna die from the humidity and im usually good with the heat, but luckily i had a battery powered fan hahahahah,so to answer your question if it gets too humid other wise i feel fine or if i have guests over, but right now im ok without ac and its 27c
When ever I am uncomfortable. I have had mine on several times already this year. I live in a new apartment with no screens on the windows so I don't dare open the windows at night. I also don't pay for my electricity so I have no idea what it cost. Might I ask what it cost to cool an avg. 2 bedroom apartment in central China , during an avg year?
What does SZ stand for? Are you out in the boonie territory here in China the DUDE I don't turn me a/c on mate!
thedude:
Yes Stan that's what I mean...it get's pretty hot and humid here...and Matty999 knew that. Notice the thumbs down are all before his answer? Hmmm.
set for 24 at night, but my electric last july and august was 800rmb
ou812:
May I ask are you a teacher? Do you have to pay the whole 800 RMB?
ambivalentmace:
most universities pay the electric , some private schools also, but i have my own home, so the bill is mine, but its only 57 square meters, its a modest place, keep things simple. bill is due every 2 months, payable to an account at ccb bank. also i am usually living at one of my schools during classes, july and augusy no classes, so i am home more.
I HATE the hot weather, which unfortunately for me means anything north of 20C. After about 22C it's time for my friend Steve (my air-con!) to cool me down.

I don't mind hot weather, but I hate humidity! Back in my country, humidity is quite high all year round. In China, i get a dehumidifier. And to keep the electricity bill reasonable, I try to keep habits that would keep humidity away as much as possible. For example, I take colder (more refreshing baths) and after showering, I use the ceiling exhaust fan to help take the moisture away, when cooking/boiling water, I use the kitchen fan.
For cheaper/handmade alternatives, you could make a bag of desiccant (make sure you read safety measures), or if you are often stationary at home, use a fan, they have much lower power consumption.
26 for sleeping
I don't mind heat, Canada is too cold for too long. Guilin seems to get in the 30s and its OK if I don't do too much walking. Perfect scooter weather. I saw 42 once in Thailand and we were walking and walking and shopping and shopping. I had to sit down, felt like I was going to melt.
yeah,, i have had it on a few times already this year.. more about the humidity (guangdong) than the actual temperature. I only need the comfort at night though. I like my bedroom anywhere between 20 -26,,, w/ lo humidity.
daytime i can handle anything. many years in S. Texas and few years in Thailand....
I really don't like the heat, my AC goes on in May and stays on through September. My bedroom temp is set to 18 degrees.
I don't know why I can't stand the heat now. I used to love it, and totally hate the cold. Now I have my rooom set to 16c around the clock, and the school is complaining about that. "Why do you leave the air conditioning on?", "Why is the house so dirty?", etc.
Scandinavian:
it's one thing what the thermometer is saying, the humidity is the problem. On dry days I can handle anything from -20C to 40C, add humidity and I will feel uncomfortable if the temperature is not between 18C-23C
Hulk:
But in my hometown, which often has summer days with 98% humidity or higher, it never really bothered me.
I think it was sleeping in the cold dark countryside in the dead of winter, with nothing but a single blanket to keep me warm.
The AC in the office is turned on all the time during working hours if the temperature is over 28C or so ,i don't know how much it costs as i don't need to pay.In the apartment i rent,i use a fan,it doesn't cost me much though i turn it on all nights long.
