What do you mean by best? Freshest? Cleanest? Choice cuts?
If you want to feel "safer" about the meat, go for a bigger chain supermarket... Metro, Walmart, etc.
But you can get some of the best deals and even have more control on your cut of meat if you buy from the meat stands at the local vegetable market.
If you go to the markets you get to pick your chicken or duck before it is killed, therefore you know it is fresh. The pork has always been killed in the morning, so it is fresh. You can buy fresh dog as well. I've never seen beef or mutton at the local markets, it is usually sold in the supermarkets. Thne trouble with fresh pork is that it hasn't hung overnight so it hasn't set, making it slimy and a bit rank. I go to the markets and get sausages made or some mince meat, but it is only pork and not everyone will make sausages.
Across from APril Gourment there is a french butcher that is absolutely awesome.
