What age? I think you'll get more responses here if you're a little more specific.

A good starting point for pretty much any age is Bogglesworld, the lazy teacher's Godsend. And if you're teaching ESL to littler ones, then a good set of flashcards will make your life a million times easier. Put some time and effort into making good ones if you must.

I recommend you search Google for flashcards and ESL games.  One of my favorite websites for flashcards is this one:  http://www.mes-english.com/flashcards.php

Like the previous user said flashcards are a must for very young learners (4-8) and there are lots of games you can play with them.  Booglesworld is better for older kids (8-14) but there are tons of sites out there just search.

Flashcards are a 1950's carry-over.  If you have the option to use Powerpoint, if your classroom is truly multimedia-friendly, then by all mean just download images from google images or yahoo images and then powerpoint the images.  The little ones love powerpoint -- they follow it like a children's television show.

If you are teaching in a non-academic setting where you must be the "white clown", then yes games for sure.  If you are teaching in an academic setting where you need to follow a  set curriculum and meet either a provincial or national standard at the end of the years, then games are totally out-of-the-question.

981977405 hit it on the head. But flashcards still carry a lot of weight. I have moved on to Power Point and I insert film clips and cartoons as well. I also let the kids hold the PP controller and go through the lesson themselves - added incentive. Games? Yeah I play plenty most of which I have introduced myself using magnetic cards onto which I paste the lesson material. Concentration, Snakes and Ladder style games, spelling races and sentence construction can all be done from these magnetic sheets. If you want a useful website in addition to those given try www.busyteacher.org but there are literally hundreds of useful sites. You need to adapt to the age and level of English of your class in all cases anyway!
