I'm planning a trip back home soon, and as usual, I've been given a shopping list by friends and colleagues (ipads, iphones, cosmetics, etc). I'm not sure which network technology is more prevalent in China, and so, I'm not sure whether to get an iPhone geared towards AT&T (GSM) or Verizon (CDMA). Probably shooting for an iPhone5. If there's no inventory after the big early rush, then they'll have to settle for a 4S or a 4 (i'm not getting in line with the crazies at 2am). And yeah, I know I need to get an unlocked phone....not sure if the 5 will be available unlocked from the get go or not....
I'm sure someone here knows the answer
I think you gotta wait for 2 months for the unlocked version of the 5. It's gonna be around $700 in the US. Keep in mind China doesn't allow you i with multiple duplicate items figuring you would have an intent to sell. Your best bet is to have your mom ship them back seperately.
In Canada iPhone 5 is available unlocked for $699.. My Gf has my iPhone 4 which has a BB that can't be unlocked. I came home to find Rogers will unlock my phone for $50, same as Telus.
When iPhone 4 came out it had problems, when iPhone 4s came out, it had problems, I'd wait awhile before buying iPhone 5 and see how it is. Apple probably has enough iPhone 5 sitting to stock the world, I doubt there is a shortage.
Once iPhone 5 is released, iPhone 4s will move down the sale menu and the price will drop, iPhone 4 will move down with a lower price and iPhone 3 will probably be discontinued.
You'd get nailed with a tax if you mail a phone to China, I think they look at every single package. I travel with more than one phone and no one ever questioned me. I lost my phones in China. I have 2 android phone that I picked up cheap for next trip. I don't mind used electronics, the cost is less, They're something that becomes obsolete or breaks or gets stolen. I bought an LG p925 like I had before for $100 and the other phone for $50. I paid $100 for my iPhone 4, so it doesn't really matter if I loose them as much.
One thing that is different with iPhones, if it is unlocked new it stays unlocked, if you unlock it then restoring or resetting it will probably lock it again. With an android phone, if you unlock it, it stays unlocked.
please bring a i phone 5 for me..i will give you better price..ha ha ha
There are even Chinese brand smartphones that are better than iPhone and 2 or 3 times cheaper...not clones but serious machines with their own UI. Check out Meizu MX and Xiaomi 2 (upcoming).
