Q: Why are clothes in shopping malls so expensive?

500 kuai for a tacky, synthetic top - seriously? I'm shocked whenever I see the prices in major shopping malls and really think it's not worth the price. I thought clothes in China are meant to be cheap but why do I get the feeling that clothes - at least trendy and fairly good quality ones - are way more expensive here?

It is actually a misunderstanding that it is cheap to buy quality products in China. The reason why most if not all famous brands are more expensive than in Europe is that China levies a very high tax on imported brand goods, a so called luxury tax.
fake products can be very cheap, but you often need to spend a long time to bargain about the price.

to buy local chinese brands can be a good alternative to the more expensive imported brands. the chinese brands will usually be of more or less the same quality as an imported brand like say H&M

It is more expensive, as I've been told if I go to America I should only take an empty suitcase and my credit card. That means, to buy clothes there is much cheaper. Have no idea what's happening here in China now.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
