Q: Why are most Chinese plane ticket booking sites useless?

I admit, the above isn't exactly a question, it's a statement. I recently went through hell trying to pay for a ticket not one but various Chinese travel sites using an international credit card. eLong proved to be the most disappointing and time consuming. After spending ages meticulously filling out my personal details and credit card details, I finally managed to "successfully" book my flight. I was thrilled. A few minutes later I checked my inbox for the confirmation email and to my dismay, got a 2 line email saying the transaction was canceled because it "wasn't purchased within the designated period".

To cut a long story short, I had no idea what this means so I called the hotline only to be told that they dont accept international credit cards within 21 days of departure. To fuel my anger, the operator hung up on me mid-sentence TWICE! (yes I called back a second time because I hadn't finished my sentence). Terrible service all round. I do not recommend Elong. Terrible!!!!!!!!

I only used C Trip and I found I couldn't use a foreign credit card in under a 24 hour period, so I had to use my girl friends.

I should have stuck her with that bill, her visa didn't arrive until the day we had too live, but we missed the bus and train. Then when the plane was forced down in Gz, she wouldn't listen to me as I knew how to get to HK by bus, we took a cab. All this because she can't apply for a visa when I say "do it now"

i use elong.net all the time never had trouble with them . i use paypal and my us credit card. i often have to call them to help me find hotels and they are great. you can also call them if you are having trouble online.

GuilinRaf:

Same here.

Had some trouble with my hotel in Lanzhou last month, they wanted to bill me more than what I had agreed with on E-long. I gave them a call, they called the hotel and all was solved with an apology for the misunderstanding.  All this within ten minutes of calling.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
