I came out of the bus this morning and immediately saw a huge cluster of people gathered around a truck. Lots of policemen were milling about, others were loading the truck with metal containers and tables. Turns out the 3/4 huddled street vendors, selling zhou, wraps, eggs, etc. had been arrested, all their stuff confiscated.
I don't really understand. I'm sure those policemen buy those pancakes and eggs on morning weekends with their kids on the street, so why do they make such a big deal about arresting these people and robbing them of their livelihoods?
law and order created for poor people, followed by poor people and made by the poor people for them self by putting the elected personnel in the assembly...
they do not pay the tax or can not give the bob a bribe which is harder on open road or open environment. government orders. what you can say in it further. hard life, times, people, attitude, concerns. people can not imagine what to do then.
matter of taxes or sanitary formalities (we talk about the food, right?)
They are easy targets. It's a public show to let the masses know who's in control.
it's china and sometimes things happen for no reason in china
Because from time to time, police has something to crack down on : last time, it was the foreigners, now it's street vendors.
Maybe somebody complains to some high responsible and then suddenly they decided to move.
But I would say....in China never ask why...just like if your soap falls from your hand...well you don't start to think over it....So be it with China...
You have to consider China like a giant two-year old child who wants this and that, wants to show off his capacities at walking, climbing, running. If it is very interesting to look at a two-year old child, well it isn't it for China.
derek:
Are u really comparing the mindset of a country.....the most populated country in the world, to the simple act of dropping a bar of soap? If so, that explains it all.
pamoua iam not sure maybe so people dont catch hipititus maybe they dont have a license like all other countries require many reasons so dont be so quick to judge
would you really eat off these filthy vendors that sweet spit and never clean these things
derek:
I wanted to offer a sarcastic comment here but I am sure it would be lost on you. Therefore, i will state the following opinion:
Chinese police don't give a rat's ass who gets "hepatitis". You are out of your mind if you really think that.
IMO, it has more to do with saving face of the local government.. The local government wants their town/city to look well developed and modern. Having street carts run by poor people in raggity clothing isn't the Chinese vision of an ideal modern city, and so they simply have to go away.
The city that I live in is talking about banning bicycles, motorcycles and e-bikes on *ALL* streets because they want everybody to drive cars and make the city look so "rich" and developed like Shanghai or whatever. My girlfriend says that all battery powered bicycles are banned in our city and next year or the year after, the local gov is going to try again to ban all moto (both gas and electric) as well. We live near Foshan.
The gov here thinks they can force everybody to take the bus, metro or car.
There are a lot of street carts in New York City too, but they all have a license / permission from the city to sell their goods and can only do it at very specific locations.
