Q: Why is every food in China has a laxative side effect?

I'm being dead serious. A bowl of soup can make you go the the squat for hours. Same goes for a tomato salad or a slice of cheese. And let's not talk about the oily and delicious food.

Is it the way it's prepared? Are the ingredients used in China subpar? Why, for the lvoe of god, why is it impossible to have a nice a consistent turd oozing out of my body here in China?

You crack me up... I've been reading thru some of the older posts... yours have a definite diarrhetic theme.

Do they have immodium there? I'm thinking a healthy supply, along with some fresh fruits and veggies, cleaned well, some clean bottled water, and some plain protein (oven cooked yourself and not deep fried and coated with MSG would do you some good. Wink

Traveler:

How can you say the Chinese have no problems with the food? Constant spitting is a result of excessive saliva production, most commonly caused by GERD, or reflux. Reflux is a rejection by the stomach of toxins and impurities in food, particularly excess acids. The expulsion of these acids through the mouth causes breakdown of the mucous glands in the throat and mouth, leading to mouth and throat infections, as well as tooth decay. These infections are also the major causes of bad breath. The spitting in turn spreads more disease. So I would say you have a lot of problems with the food.

Honestly, it's just a matter of hygiene and how our body have been used to it.

Very often, Western people, I am among them, are used to have food packaged, display and cook in a hygienic way. As a matter of fact, all the hygiene rules and regulations for stocking, conserving, disposing food issued in China are just a copy-paste of what it's done in Western countries.

In China, people are used since they are young to eat things that are not necessarily clean and therefore developping their immune system to all kind of bacteria, microbes, and germs. For that, you would need to stay with a Chinese family for some time and see how they prepare food. Basically, even during the summer, they can leave raw meat for a whole day outside a fridge. For Chinese New Year, I have seen my in-law cooking a fish and leaving on the table for a couple of day before eating it.

I always make this joke with my wife : Chinese are the only to be able to cross the Huangpu river and get out of it alive and still in good health.

To get the same kind of immunity, you'll need to eat Chinese food every day from all kind of small restaurants and your stomach will be fine.

I came to China I had the same problem. After eating food from local restaurants and Sichuan food, my stomach improved and no more diarrhea.

I've only been here 2 weeks, and I've had this problem. However, it seems that on days when I eat yogurt, I am fine. For several days I didn't eat yogurt and it was horrible. I don't know know if that's what's keeping me from being sick, but I'm going to eat it every day and see if it helps. Maybe you should try it, too.

I think it's the grease. I notice even baked goods can be oily. I ate yogart drinks because i like them,, did not help. Finally used immodium. But this is not like the Mexican experience. There I was tossing blood.
