That many people think that just because you point out a flaw or say something bad about something that you hate all about it.
It's half not being used to recieving criticism and not understanding at a little tough love can be a good thing, and half "no one picks on my little brother but me"
What someone once told me was if they are not talking about you then it means they don't like you. So I guess with all the criticism you just have to see it as you the receiver getting the criticism and take it as advice or whatever. If they didn't talk about it then it must mean they didn't like you. Either way sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you. Just remember that. Actions speak louder than words and it's hard to see action from just words alone.
It's for the same reason that if you say one "bad" thing about something they apply it to the whole.
For example, if say you are an English teacher and you say "There are 3 Chinese kids in my class that are awful!", most Chinese will assume you mean "ALL Chinese kids are awful".
If you are in business and a Chinese company rips you off and you say "That @#%^%&$# Chinese company ripped me off!" many people will take that to mean ALL Chinese companies will rip you off.
If you say "Yao Ming sucks" it means you think China does.
I'm not exactly sure why this is, but it's a collective mentality that I find absolutely ridiculous on at least a weekly basis.

I get that man, it is like you tell them I hate dumplings, and they say well if you hate China so much why don't you leave. How moronic can you get. I like to say well maybe I will leave someday, unlike you who will be stuck here forever.
Might also depend on whether the rest of the discussion included comments of agreement?
Besides, it's a lot easier to just attack on one front, than have to individually address each and every point.
People like to generalize, and to see what they please.
Especially in a country where criticizing it is practically forbidden...
freakboy:
Maybe criticizing is forbidden but they sure like to complain.
Some people are just really defensive. You say one bad thing and they don't want to hear any more. They just want to hear the good stuff, they like saving face.
freakboy:
yeah I understand that so tell me what has been done to these people that makes then super defensive and hyper sensitive? Yes I am looking for facts here not BS so give me History and shit man not trolling.

Well, I think of it this way. They only say they like something when they really like it. For instance, I noticed that my Chinese friends don't really say out loud that they like something very often. When I first came to China, people asked me what I liked. I said dumplings, then every time I saw them around the time to eat, they asked if I wanted dumplings, as if it's all I wanted to eat. In this state of mind, maybe saying you dislike something is like saying you really dislike it. I don't know if this is true, but it's the only thing I can come up with.
